Adding To The .22LR Thread, What was Your First .22 Hangun?

My first .22

My first .22 was the Ruger Standard Auto that my Father bought me for my 21st birthday in 1972 that will remain with me. Did not get another .22 handgun until 1984 when I bought a Colt Trooper MKIII for my self and a Charter Arms .22 for my wife. The front sight broke on the Charter Arms, but even with the broken front sight I could shoot it better than the Colt. The Colt was also very heavy so I sold it years later. My Father in law was wanting a handgun and since I was into something else at the time I gave him the Charter Arms. Last year I purchased a S&W Mod 17-3 this is far superior to the Colt in weight, accuracy, and shoot ability.

My dad made me buy a Ruger Super Single Six as he felt a double action was too dangerous for a 13 year old kid. A few years later I was allowed to spend my hard earned money on an Erma 22 Luger replica. Lucky for me, the Erma didn't work worth a darn so we took it back and the shop exchanged it for my Smith Model 18. I still have the Smith but sold the Single Six off back in the 70s.

A Model 9,,,something Taurus 9 shot . I wanted a Smith but it was 100$ more.....and 3 shots less. Still have it . Taught all 3 kids how to shoot with it ...will never sell it ...

My first, like a lot of us here, was a Ruger Single Six. Paid $65 in about 1972. I unfortunately gave it away almost 27 years ago now. My wife hasn't let me touch it since! She is a dead shot with it, and I couldn't get it out of her hands the first time she shot, so whataya gonna do?

I used a Ruger single six 3 screw to teach my 2nd wife, the good one, to shoot pistols. She did OK on paper and cans. I was trying to get her to hit walnuts on the ground. She wasn't hitting any. I hung my wristwatch on a low limb limb and reminded her it was a gift from her predecessor. I found the Seiko stainless back piece out in the field. The hole was dead center. She wanted that pistol, nope, I bought a new Bearcat, she stole it and shoots it well. I found a holster in great condition in a gun shop used leather bin for $5.00. It fits the Bearcat perfectly. I just gotta remember to not put my new watch in front of me at target practice.....

My very first .22 was a High Standard Military (D model I think) that was given to me as a gift in 1960. I traded the gun in 1967 for a S&W Mdl. 18 ($72.50) that I still have. I think I got $40 for the High Standard. I've always wanted to replace that original gun but I've never seen one I liked, in fact High Standards are hard to find in general.

Not my first .22 ............. just a great shooter

When the Ruger 22 Auto came out I rushed to Charleston with a buddy and we each bought one for $37.50.No paper work or hassel. We were 16 or 17 years old .We plinked thousands of rounds at about 50 cents a box,and collected many squirrels and finished a few cotton mouths. They naturally had the red background on the logo.Stupidly,in hard times I sold it for $15.00 well used but still shooting like a champ.

Living, as I do, in Spain, my 1st .22 l.r. handgun, bought in 1985, when I was 18 (the legal age to own a gun in my country) was the ubiquitous (in Spain) Astra TS-22.

The first handgun I ever shot was a .22 l.r. Astra Cadix revolver that belonged to one of my father's friends.

After 25 years of using mainly centerfire handguns, My second .22 l.r. handgun was this pristine S&W 617 no dash (shown in this picture with my 14-2) that I bought just one year ago.

My first was a new Ruger Bearcat when they were introduced. The second was a Colt Buntline Scout. Then in 1960 I purchased a new Ruger MK I. I still have the MK I, box and papers. I'll never forget the ser.# 1911XX

Ruger Standard Model 4 3/4" barrel. 1964 or 65. Navy PX in San Diego. Long gone I'm sorry to say.

This is my first 22, Walther P22. After doing all the fluff&buff it's a very fun gun but very picky about ammo:)
