Anyone have any way to loosen the locking screws while the deltapoint is still mounted so you can zero the sight?

I mount the sight on the pistol with the locking screws loose, then I zero it, remove the sight and tighten the lock screws. I haven't had to re-zero my sights since I put it on around 20K rounds ago.

Wow! You learn something new everyday. If I understand the question correctly, the inability to properly adjust a red dot without having to remove it from the pistol makes this unfortunate product a poor choice. Thanks for the heads up! Surely not all of the red dot sights are this way, are they?

You can adjust the zero with it mounted, the rear sight on the core doesn't allow the locking screws to be accessed with the reflex mounted. It could be done by making a shorter legged torx driver. I thought about doing that when I got mine, but realized that once the zeroing is done, the sight comes off, the locking screws are tightened, and the sight re-registers perfectly. The new Deltapoint 2 have changed to a hex instead of a torx screw so a person could just cut a standard allen wrench. I think this was done to satisfy a perceived need rather than an actual issue. They also made a side accessible battery tray in reaction to the perceived need of changing the batteries quickly. It takes maybe 30 seconds to pull the sight and change the battery. Like I said in my earlier post, I've shot over 20K rounds since I mounted the sight in Feb of this year. I'm also using the same battery and I shoot the pistol every day. I think Leupold got the design right on the first one. I haven't seen a DP2 in person yet, but suspect that in order to get the battery tray to work, they had to make the sight taller overall, which I don't think is an improvement.

Just remembered some guys that took a torx driver and heated up the end and put a shorter bend in it to access the lock screws. I was going to go that route if I felt the need, I didn't so I never did, but it's been done. You don't need to worry about the heat making the torx soft, you have to be very careful about how much torque you put on the lock screws, I think the book says something like 3 inch pounds

thanks. i wound up doing just that. i put the deltapoint on the gun with the lock screws loose, then zeroed it, took it back off, then tightened the locking screws, then put it back on the gun. the red dot appears to stay in place. hoping to get out and test her out now. as long as it holds zero between setting the zero, removing the sight, and tightening the locking screws all should be ok.

also, other than the heat up the leoupold torx key, anyone find a torx 5 with a short enough arm/bend to fit between the iron sight and the locking screws?

I looked and never found one, I even emailed Leupold about it. (never did answer me).

thanks for the info guys. i must say even after the discussion on the delta point sighting, it is an awesome red dot. i put the sight on, sighted in, checked it with a bore sight, locked it down, tested her out and wala... she is dead spot on.

also received my comp-tac international holster. works will with the m&p 9 core with the deltapoint after a slight modification. pics attached.

I went through a few different holsters.

The first one is a Blade Tech made for a Compact, but my core fits nicely, I use this one for IDPA (I also use this one when I CC my compact or use my 4.25"), the second one is a Blade Tech Speed Holster that I used for USPSA and Steel Challenge for a while. The last one is my current Safariland 014, now I'm spoiled and find it hard to use anything else. Kind of impractical for concealed carry though.

They mailed me 5 wrenches for free so I could attempt to bend them. Like you said I did it your way and it is working fine. Great sight.
