Advantages of 681 over 686?

When 413Maxwedge mentioned his dream gun was a 2.5" 681, I can't resist send pics of my dream gun. A 681 with a 686 Mountain Gun barrel shorted and then rebored and rifled to shoot 44 specials. Five shot titanium cylinder, custom made by Jim Stroh, with Roy Fishpaw grips. This in my dream gun to carry around our "estate".

I have worked around livestock, on and off tractors, in and out of pickups. I have totally buggered two adjustable sights over the course of my life. For a hard use working handgun fixed sights are the way to go. For range toys and hunting adjustable sights are fine.

I have both and have for many years . I shot both well , good enough . My 681 has been used and shot and carried waaaaay more . If forced to have only one , the 681 is the keeper . I have been told that when I get older I won't appreciate the fixed sights . That might be true as I'm only 73 . Regards Paul

Hi
PERSONAL opinion from a bullseye shooter. If you have a load that groups well in your revolver AND the fixed sights are within a few inches of zero from a MAXIMUM of 25 yards, then you're golden. If not, then adjustable sights are a great help. If you're COMFORTABLE / COMPETENT shooting at more than 25 yards, then you'll want adjustable sights anyway.

Again, PERSONALLY, I find having a bit of light on each side of the front sight target shooting etc.
