Need some expert advice here. I am shooting a Smith 14-4 (K-38) in Bullseye competition; about 2-300 rds a month. The load is a ZERO 148 gr HBWC ahead of 2.7 gr Bullseye. I notice the following:
At muzzle end of cylinder, there is a radial lead splash pattern around each cylinder hole. In addition, there appear to be lead flake residue on the side of the cylinder at the muzzle end. Not much but it is obviously there.
Question: Is this amount of leading normal for a K-38 in good condition? What do I do about this leading; best way to remove it etc?
All replies appreciated.

Several questions come to mind,Bullseye is a pretty fast powder and the HBWC are usually dry lubed and soft lead, could be pushing the soft lead to fast and causing galling. But looking at the book 650fps is not to fast.Measure your bullet dia. make sure there not oversized,I have seen HBWC as fat .361,you could have a tight bore and big bullets. The HBWC is better suited to oversize bores and older .38 S&W chamberings.I would try a different bullet and see if leading continues.
As for cleaning lead out of the bore the Lewis Lead Remover is about as good as it gets for that purpose. The cylinder face and muzzle, a rubber eraser will work with out removing blueing, lead cloth works but will remove blueing.Waxing your gun after getting it all cleaned up will make subsequent cleanings much easier.

Thats good advice from Longranger. If you can find some, give the 148 bevel base a try, I shoot a lot of them with good result's and you have to be a master shooter to notice the accuracy difference between them and the hollow base jobbie's.

Sounds the normal thing to me, you are loaded a little hot, I used 2.2 of bullseye in PPC and Bullseye shooting. The Zero bullet is the best you can get, so I wouldn't change bullets i would work on a smaller load that your gun will like to eat. If you use a ranson rest you will need to load about 20 rounds of each so you can get the gun and rest set with the first ten round and then check the last ten for the numbers.
