Check how active the member is in the community, does he make good posts contributing? Check in the sales section for any comments left about previous sales.
Exchange addresses and phone numbers, use google maps to check the area that person is living.
Ship to FFL in case of doubt

Ditto what xtasy said. I've recently completed three transactions with well established forum members and been very pleased.

If I was trading with someone who had just joined last month and only had a couple post, I would want more information and references on that person before trusting a swap.

Dont trust anyone who only rants, hasn't posted a joke or has less than 5 likes.

Check if that person has a ebay or gunboker account to check for their ratings.
