Started when my pistol team in the Army was issued it.
Always thought it smelled like bread pudding!
I use it. Seems thinner than some and use it to lubricate tight areas. Also use it along with Breakfree CLP as a rust inhibitor in barrels when storing a firearm.
Pick your favorite solvent and lubricant designed specifically for firearms maintenance. Be sure the products you choose are not physically harmful to YOU.
The biggest problem with gun cleaners and lubricants is not which one to choose. There are literally thousands of them. The biggest problem is that few people actually use them......regulary, and according to the directions in the firearm's manual and on the product label.

I think G-96 smells like nutmeg. Works great, too.
And, as an aside, Hoppe's is pronounced hop-eez (don't take my word, look it up) rather than hops like a bunny.
