I found a M60 that is marked MOD-60 on the gun and the Ser #AEVXXXX puts it at around 1984 but that would have been a 60-1 and there is no -1 on the gun. I am perplexed ;0) Anyone have an idea of what it is I have as far as age and whether it is a -1 or not?

The revolvers stamped MOD 60 were produced from 1965 to 1988 and was replaced by the 60-3. Some S & W models were not replaced by the next "dash number" in sequence; there are two 60-1s made at two different times, just to make it even more confusing. Hope this is helpful.

36-1 designated 3" barrel of which there were pencil & "heavy" (not very) variations. Mine is -1 heavy barrel.

That sure clears it up....lol. Thanks so much. The gun is in great shape but it looks like it is old. The serial numb puts at 84 so it looks pretty dang good for almost 30. Put it on lay away today. Cant wait to bring it home. I have been looking for a M65 to replace my 3 inch carry gun that I foolishly sold a few years ago and this one is as close as I have come. So some 158 gr .38's will do the trick.
