I'm not sure this is the correct place but I have a question regarding grips/stocks. I bought a pair of stag grips but they are so white and new looking they clash rather than enhance the appearance of the gun. I was told that artificial ivory grips can be "aged" by putting them in tea over night. I tried it and it did not work but what about stag? Can real stag be aged in this manner? If so, will any residual tea, which is an acid, attack the finish on the frame underneath the stocks?

Thanks,

Bill

I have used brown shoe polish to make new stags look older.A little goes a long way and try a tiny bit in an out of the way place to be sure you like the result before going full steam.

Charlie,

At the risk of revealing my stupidity, is that liguid or paste or does it matter. Either way, I had not heard of that before and it sounds like a terrific idea.

Thanks,

Bill

Soak them in strong black coffee overnight and let them dry before you
put them back on the gun.

Thanks, alwslate,

Perhaps the reason it did not work before with the synthetic stocks was I used tea and I should have used coffee.

I used Kiwi paste polish.

alwslate,

You are a genius. I got just the effect I was looking for. If anything, I left them in too long. I only regret I do not have before and after photos.

Raider,

I did not have the shoe polish but I had coffee so I gave that a try. Since it worked I did not get to try your method but I'll bet it would have worked.

All I can say is, if you want to find genius this is the forum to come to.

Thanks to both,

Bill
