I ordered a set of grips from Ahrends and later asked via email what the turn around time might be. I haven't heard from them, and I was wondering what others have experienced in this regard. I told them I wasn't trying to bug them, but was just curious.

I ordered two sets earlier in the year. I was told that the turn around time was 6 weeks. Got them in 4 weeks. I like them, so to me it was worth the wait.

I have a bunch of Ahernd's grips -- a month -- more or less has been the norm for me

I can't remember it exactly, but I believe the K-frame boot grips I ordered took around 6 weeks for delivery. There are vendors that stock them so that may be an option if you want a quicker delivery and they have what you want, but I wanted the tung oil finish so I ordered them direct.

Thanks all. I too opted for the tung oil finish, plus I mentioned a particular shade. I guess I should just settle down and wait for my stocks to arrive.

BTW, they are for a 581 no-, 4". Will post pictures when they come in.

Take care.

Same as all of the above. The tung oil does add to the wait. Whatever he tells you time wise is about when you get them.

Warrant,

I am three weeks into what Kim described as a 5 week wait. I, too, am "chompin' at the bit".
I ordered 4 sets, 3 for RB "K" frames and one set for my Kimber Ultra Carry. I really like his maple grips and I also ordered the oil finish.
We'll have a "foto-fest" with our new shoes in the next three weeks, or so, hopefully.

Friday night I ordered a set from "gripseller" on ebay, this morning an email came with a tracking number. They should arrive this week...

Try gunbroker. Search by seller. the sellers name is gripseller The absolute best person I've ever dealt with on the sight. Her name is Terri, and she has a very large assortment of Ahrend grips available. I've personally bought 24 sets from her. ALL have been perfect, and delivered in a timley fashion. I am in no way affiliated with Terri, but can highly recommend her.

We'll do it Mike! I've heard so much good about these grips so I think I should expect a wait. Un-finished grips, though, one would think would take less time. Time will tell?!?

The wait for tung oil and maple is well worth it.

I received an e-mail response from Kim yesterday saying my grips (tung oil finished, with color preference) will be shipped this week. They were ordered 7/27/11.

I ordered them intended for a Model 15, but now may put them on a recently acquired Model 17.

This will be my first set, and from the enthusiastic sound of the posts in this thread I'm really looking forward to their arrival.

Many thanks Tom! And in response to others, you may have to wait a bit for Kim's grips, but it is worth the time. The workmanship is perfect and the woodgrains he gets are gorgeous. I will say the Tung oil grips are well worth the extra cost as well as the time. I don't think you will be disappointed once you get the grips in your hands. Enjoy!

I placed an order with Ahrends for Retro Targets, in the tung oil finish, to be shipped to me in Australia via Terry Gripseller.
From memory they arrived in about four to five weeks after placing the order and I got my model 617 the nicest set of cocobolo grips I could wish for.
Ahrends and Gripseller are fine people and I'll be happy to do it again some day.

You can always order them direct and unfinished - and put the oil finish on yourself. Be sure to put a coat on the entire grip - additional applications, as needed, on the outside. Great grips.

If you don't want to wait - try Brownell's on line. They will list what they have available - and it's not a huge collection or wood choice. Still, they are the same price - and you'll get them quickly - along with whatever else you order. I always seem to need bore & chamber brushes, Wolff springs, etc. I have stripped the original Ahrends finish - which appears to be like Deft's Varathane, a lacquer-like product - and refinished them with a homebrew penetrating oil/resin finish with great results. If you have a modicum of patience, which I don't, the wait and slight additional cost of their Tung oil finish is likely worth it. Note: any oil finish will darken the wood - my unfinished brighest orange striped cocobolo dulled out considerably - but, as a longtime woodworker, I was prepared for it..

Well, I got mine today; about 7+ weeks. They are nice. I got unfinished Maple and have put 2 coats of Tung oil on so far. I will let it set for a few days and then do another coat.
