I just bought a RWS 34 single shot .22 spring air rifle and am wanting a 4x scope for critter control around my property. I've researched a little and everyone says to get a dedicated airgun scope because a firearm scope can't handle the vibrations. They all are recommending Leapers, UTG, and Centerpoint scopes which I thought were kind of cheezy brands. I would like a good scope in the $100 range or might pay a little more if necessary to get decent quality and longevity, any recommendations?

I'm guessing that the cost of quality optics for air guns will be the same as it is for firearms... you get what you pay for...trying to find a good quality scope for $100.00 new will be very hard..& I know nothing of manufacturer warranties on air gun scopes ,if they will repair used ones free or not...whether or not you were the 1st purchaser...if they do not stand behind their products... a poor quality cheap one can cost more than a better made very quickly... HTH

May be a little taller profile than you're looking for but these rock. I have one on a AK47/TWS dogleg and it blows me away for the price that it is.

Farmer17:

I've owned and shot a Diana RWS 34 for many years. It is an excellent air rifle, and you should have a lot of fun with it. You will need a dedicated air gun scope - unless you like replacing scopes.

Here is a source for you:

Accessories - Scopes - PyramydAir.com

By the way, I use a 4x Gamo on mine. It also has a mount for a flashlight and laser so you can use it at night if you so desire. I believe Burris used to warranty their scopes for all guns - from .177 to .50 caliber, but you may need to check on that.

Best of luck

Just don't buy an RWS scope.. Buddy had one and it just would not hold zero. he just shoots it with the sights. The air rifles are great but the scopes not so much. Kinda looked cheap too. Always heard good things about the Leupold ones but have never tried one.

I "believe" that scopes used on air rifles (spring type) are built differently then those designed for ctg firearms. Spring air rifles recoil forward due to the movement of the powerful spring driven piston. Thus, the optics are designed to take recoil from a different direction then ctg arms. If you use a conventional scope it will, after some time, "fall apart" internally.

Enjoy the rifle. Air rifles are remarkably accurate given the correct ammo is used.

I bought a Gamo .177 cal Big Cat..I had a old Tasco 3x9 on peak thru mounts..The scope had been on my 22 mag bolt rifle..
I put it on the Gamo, did a little reinforcing to buffer the scope on the receiver..I have shot many a rd with this set up and all is well..

RETICLE SUPPORT

Farmer: RichCapeCod has it correct for the reason why spring guns need a different scope. I found that a relatively inexpensive TASCO scope has the correct reticle support for spring guns; HOWEVER, not their cheaper fixed power scopes. Buy a 6-24X44 & you'll be OK & that one is still not expensive.

My brother recently got an air rifle for rodent control, and I've since picked one up too. Nothing real expensive, he has a Ruger and I have a Remington. Both came with "cheap" scopes.

What we've discovered firsthand, and have found internet info to back it up, is this:
the cheap scopes themselves are not bad at all, but you need to figure out a way to mount them securely. As someone above posted, there is a heck of a lot of "odd" and violent recoil, with the piston banging around. The scope rings will come loose (even with blue loctite applied, and one of my rings stripped and broke when I attempted to torque it on more securely. When the ring comes loose, you then lose zero. Have to tighten these way more frequently than on a "regular" rifle; if you do, you will be pleased with the scope.

I've read some reccomendations on getting better rings, but I can't help you there. You might want to check somewhere like pyramidair.com and see which ones are the most liked.

Hope this helps; it would be a potential waste of money to buy a more expensive scope and find it shakes loose, just like the cheaper ones.
