Never had tomato pie, but when these get ripe I am gonna try one. Looks like I am about 2 weeks out.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Where is the recipe for the tomato pie, I'm game to try most anything. Anything North of Cajun country that is. Them Cajun's will eat things that keep crawling out of the pot.

Sounds good to me. I grow 16 plants every year....we save the harvest in many many ways from salsa to V8....tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes...I'm gonna definitely try the pie. Thanks for the idea.

One of my local restaurants claim to fame was serving "Tomato pie". It is now closed but a few years ago was on a top 100 list of things to eat in Alabama. I love my Tomatoes, I love them fresh, mixed in the okra, onions mix, tomato sandwiches, tomato juice, heck I just love Tomatoes, but I have never gotten use to eating Tomato pie. My Tomatoes will start to ripen in a few more weeks and I an waiting on the Tomato sandwiches, complete with Dukes mayo and sea salt. My pies need to contain blueberries, strawberries, apples, blackberries. Dang, this post is making me hungry. Can we talk about pistols?

Never heard of it but will try it this week. Nothing better than home made ice cold tomato juice...now I'm craving that too!

If you want to taste how it's supposed to taste, come to the Hanover, Va. tomato festival.
The best tasting tomatoes prepared in more ways than I can list here.

I remember eating "Tomato pie" in Syracuse NY.

Thick pizza crust, a layer of sweet tomato sauce, no cheese, served at room temperature.

Local specialty, I was told. Tasted OK.

Indiana Meets Italy and Alabama

I just got a case of San Marzano variety Italian plum tomatoes from Red Pack. These are grown in Indiana, but I cannot tell the difference between them and the stuff imported from Italy. Usually, I use these to make authentic marinara sauce, but I am going to devote a can or two to the recipe John shared with us. Should be awesome!
