Alarm/Security System

Years ago, I had a neighbor who was out of town with his wife and returned one day early. The neighborhood teenager across their street thought they were gone and quietly broke in and surprised them. Of course they knew him so the kid panicked and killed them both with a shovel or something like that. His mother found his bloody clothes and called the law. From that day forward, I have had an alarm that has perimeter door sensors and room motion detectors that can be shunted or temporarily turned off (bed room). If windows are open in the summer and someone cuts a screen and climbs in, the motion sensors get them. If a door is opened or someone moves in a protected part of the house the siren goes off and both I and the perp are immediately made aware of the situation. Mine was installed by a local security company at a reasonable price. Monitoring is good if you travel and are away during the day. I just want the night protection.
Way before that would come into action, I have a wireless driveway alarm that works up to 200 ft. away that signals me that my perimeter has been violated. They are only $15 at harbor Freight Wireless Driveway Alert & Driveway Alarm System . Occasionally, animals can set it off but at least I get to check.
Then I have motion detector outdoor flood lights that go on if anyone approaches the house or garage from any direction. I figure if the average punk wanting to break in saw the lights come on, he would just go somewhere else to do mischief plus if I look out the windows, everything is lit up. Real pros will never be completely foiled but statistically it is the drug punk or the like.
With the alarms, I can sleep like a baby and not worry about every little sound. Did I mention that I have two Coon Hounds as well?
My first grab is my Mossberg Maverick 88, 12 ga., 9 shot loaded with 00 buck. Beside it is my S&W 14-3 .38 spcl.

John,
I'm pretty much with you. I'm thinking out the layers that I want to deploy. I think the driveway alarm is first on my list.

Kanewpadle,
Thank you for your input. I will be in touch.

Layers of defense is a good start. Alarm company signs in the yard and on windows is what I have first, then sensors on the windows and doors connected to an alarm company, backed up by internet and cell phone connections.

In the house are easily accessed but locked up weapons that only my wife and myself know of. . .;)
