ALERT-Brand new 4566's at CDNN

It holds up OK. Not as well as HK or Glock melonite treatments.....in my experience.

After about five months of carry and shooting around 1000 rounds, it is slightly worn on the decock paddles and the high edges on the slide. Not bad, but worn none the less. The flats and frame show no wear. Great pistol. I wanted one for years and stumbled into mine on another board.

The night sight vials will probably need replacing if these 4566's are from the same batch as mine. Mine were dated 99 and were dim. Visible - but not as bright as new. Regards 18DAI.

So, who got one of these? Regards 18DAI.

S & W 4566 for $600

It's only money. You get an all metal made in the USA gun.

This price is about what my local dealers want for one of the new plasto-matics.

If I didn't have 4 .45acp's already....Oh well....

If I had the cash I would buy one. I would prefer stainless, but a NIB 4566 is pretty tempting.

Nice gun. Nice price. However, if they are 10 yr "old stock" as mentioned, I would imagine that the night sights are getting pretty dim.

Weren't people wetting themselves over these a year or two ago and I think 356handgunner was moving them in the $800+ range and folks were happy to pay it, now they're $200 cheaper and no one's bought one?

I checked their most recent catalog and don't see them listed, do we know if they've still got any?

I guess if you really want a brand new gun that's not a bad deal. That's about the same price as a M&P Pro. I bought mine about a six months ago in lightly used condition for a couple of hundred bucks less. Regular stainless finish.

They are probably newly assembled from old stock. Someone here bought 5904 from Lew Horton and test fired casings were from sometime in 2010. Item Detail

In my experience this pistol is superior to any M&P I've shot or seen. M&P's are over priced for what they are IMO. All metal construction with a nice trigger, durable, reliable and accurate. Unlike the M&P, these melonite 4566's also look good! :) Comparing them to the plastic fantastic is apples and oranges.

I called this AM to order one as a back up to the one I already have. Sold out!

If S&W would make them in a scandium frame, melonite finish and add a Briley bushing, I'd buy two. I know an agency or two that would buy them as well. No need to give the agency them for free either. ;) Regards 18DAI.

NIB for $599? Just slightly more than a Glock 30, plus all metal and US made for those that care for that sort of thing.

Chances are the night sights are dead, as were the ones on my CDNN S/S 4566 ($389). I'm not fan of night sights, didn't feel like spending bucks replacing the vials, so I spent $3.95 on a bottle of DayGlo-Orange model paint and applied a dab over the vials. I've found that I can see the sights in any light bright enough to see a person, particularly if the lighting is behind me to any degree.

I got the Feb 2011 Cheaper Than Dirt catalog today. On the front cover it has a S&W 4566 for 999.95.
Makes the CDNN price sound really good, don't it?

I believe that is the decocker only model, with the text that reads something like: Caution: The decocking lever automatically returns to the ready to fire position."

In searching for the text on Gunbroker under "4566" I found a 4566STW that has the year 2006 printed on the slide. Has anyone else seen that before?

Here is the pictures of the text (MODS: if this is not allowed please feel free to remove, just posted for conversation sake.)

I bought this one NIB about a year ago. No date on the slide and no warnings.

Careful now. Without the warnings you might hurt yourself. Also, coffee can be hot, so careful there too, and look both ways before crossing the street.
