I recently saw a Glock 19, Gen 4 with night sights for sale on an Armslist ad at an attractive price of $465 and was very tempted to purchase the gun. I really don't need another 9mm as I have a M&P 5" Pro and a Shield but neither have night sights and somehow I felt the Glock 19 would be a good addition to my arsenal. Plus I kind of wanted to see if I was missing out not owning a Glock and whether they any better than what I have. However, I decided to rent one first which is what I did at a local gun range. While I found the gun to be accurate and I liked the trigger pull and break, I didn't like it better than either of my M&Ps and certainly it was no more accurate. And whoever mentioned on this forum that they found the trigger on the 19 to have kind of a sharp edge, I totally agree. If I had shot very long I think I might have developed a blister. I totally get that Glocks are reliable and all that, but I've not had any problems with my Shield or Pro after shooting 2,000 or more rounds so my inner desire to buy a Glock 19 is gone now. I guess my point to this is to always try to rent before buying, it may stop you from a compulsive purchase that you may later regret. Also, don't feel too bad if you don't own a Glock. That's my take as well. They're certainly good guns, but not great in any one respect. They're comparable to any number of other choices. The Glock faithful often get offended to hear it may not be somebodies favorite and are all to eager to offer advice and "facts" that support their position. I'm not into hype. I use what works for me.

The tip of the trigger safety abrades my finger as well. It's an annoyance for sure. They don't shoot as smooth for me as my more traditional autos.

There's been a few times I've researched picking one up. Every time the accessory list to make it suitable for my use/tastes equals the price of the gun, so instead I've just picked up a $800-$1000 gun that is to my liking out of the box.

I did almost the exact same thing but switch the guns around. Always had Glocks. Decided to give M&P a try. Only instead of renting I bought. Found them to be fine guns ...BUUUT...they didn't do anything my Glocks didn't already do ans I was heavily invested in them so I sold off the M&Ps. FS 9, 40/357, 45

Picked up a gen 4 G19 and felt it was my next gun.....Picked up a SD9VE and closed my eyes and said "What the H__L , why not" Saved $350, and my 9mm ammo is not mad at me for not shooting it out of a Glock....goes bang every time.

Glock are well made and competent pistols... They are not magic.

If it wasn't for the gen 4, I would never have bother getting one, as I hated the feel of the gen 3.

Still prefer my M&Ps.

I'm a lucky guy! :)

I'm fortunate that Glock triggers never aggravated my finger. I've had a few (17,19x2,23,26x2(last Gen4),27,30,30s,34,36x2) and currently have my 26 and a Gen3 19. Keep in mind now, we're talking about since 1990.

I was at my range several years ago and spotted a Smith semi in the showcase that really caught my eye. When I took hold of it I was struck with how natural it pointed and felt. I was so struck I took it with me. It was a Smith MP9c. I purchased an OWB from a nameless manufacturer and was set. The only problem was the trigger. I never knew when it was going to break. I came to this forum and found I was not alone and in addition there were some failures to stay back after the last round. I do believe the 9c was fairly new because there was a magazine shortage. Traded it on a Smith 386PD. Pic attached, I think.

I never had a failure of any type on my Glocks, nor did I have any with the MP9c, though many rounds less there. The Glock trigger is the same today as it will be 5 years from now. I still like the looks of the 9c and there may have been upgrades on the trigger. Glocks are ugly as sin, but tack drivers right out of the box. No longer my carry though.

What goes around comes around. I grew up on wheelies professionally and that is what I'm back to now. Never had a failure to fire with one.

It's good that we don't all like the same thing. Trust your safety with whatever you shoot well and practice, practice, practice. - 'ole joe

I had Glocks, G23 & G21 but gave them to my son before WI had a concealed carry law & after I retired from armed security. Fine pistols. Never a problem. Now I have an M&P 40 & 40C. What changed me to M&P was price - $349 at a police supply store w/3 mags & the fact that S&Ws are made in the USA. The final price was after a $50 America's Finest rebate from S&W. I know some Glocks are made in the US, too, but not all. That & strong recommendations from those who already made the switch from Glock to M&P. My son was one of them. He carries a full size M&P40 as a Police Officer & shot over 3000 rounds through it at the Academy. He still loves the Glocks & carries the G23 off duty most times. His wife recently got her CCL & he bought her a G23 for Christmas after having shot M&P & Glock. She shot the Glock better then the M&P & to her it was more comfortable.

I shoot both equally well but the grip on M&Ps (I have the fs 40 & the 40C) is superior & more comfortable.

You couldn't have gone wrong with either choice.

JoeM19, sorry to hear about the poor trigger you had on your MP9c. I've had two experiences with M&P triggers. The one that came with my M&P 5" Pro was not set to its specs. Rather than send it back to S&W, I had heard so much about the Apex trigger kits that I went that route. Now for the same cost as a Glock 34 I have a great gun with an amazing trigger. However, the trigger that came with my Shield is just fine with a clean break, so much so that I don't feel the need to install an Apex trigger. I believe they are now putting the improved Shield triggers in the other models and if that's the case, it should alleviate any complaints regarding triggers in M&P models. I agree with what you said about the M&Ps fitting nicely in your hands. My brother-in-law shot both my M&Ps and compared them to the way his 1911s fit his hand. Just for clarification, I have shot my friends Glock 21 and didn't notice the sharp edge on the trigger on that gun. I still think Glocks are fine weapons and don't have anything against them, I just don't need one now with what I have with my M&Ps, Smith revolvers and some other guns. Regards, Elliot45

When I was looking at buying my first tupperware pistol I was leaning towards the XDm but I was completely inexperienced so I did my due diligence and looked at and shot the XDm, Glock and M&P since I was lucky enough to have friends that owned each. Out of all three the M&P was the only gun that I did not witness a malfunction and coincidentally felt the best in my hand. I realize there are a million factors that lead to malfunctions but I have been very happy with my M&P purchase and have never had an issue. I am now an M&P fanboi and proud of it. Maybe it's because I have newer models or inexperience but I find the stock trigger is fine.

Almost....almost!

Elliot45.....I looked at the MP Shield 9, no safety at the same time I was looking at the Glock 26Gen4. I've traded with my lgs for a long time and pretty much with the same three or four sales folks that work there. I trust them and when I was looking at the Shield 9, I ask the guy what did he know about them thinking back to my MP9c. He told me that he had one and really liked it. I opted for the G26.

I've read so much here about the ups with the Shield I may go back and look at it again. Unfortunately the only range that will rent you one makes you purchase their ammunition at the same time for the trial shoot. Their rent is high and their ammo is $10 a box higher than any other dealer in the area.

I WILL take a look! Maybe look at another 9c too. - 'ole joe.

JoeM19, sounds like you made a good choice with the G26. The only negative I can see is that it's not as slim as the Shield. That may be a positive or negative. It's a negative if you have an issue concealing what you have. If not, no problem. Where it may be a positive is that if you have large hands it may be easier to hold when shooting. I do have large hands and I had to practice with the Shield to tighten my groups. On my 9mm Pro, I just inserted the largest backstrap and I was good to go. Even my brother-in-law who doesn't have large hands likes the big grip on my Pro although he didn't say anything negative about shooting the Shield. In fact he's recommending both of them to a friend of his even though he has Kimbers. It's too bad that your gun range charges so much and makes you buy the ammo. Even though I owned the 5" Pro, I also rented the Shield for $10 and they let me use my own ammo. The rental was well worth it and definitely confirmed in my mind that this was a gun I wanted for my CCW. In fact before I purchased the Shield I had a Springfield XDS .45 and as soon as I got familier with the Shield, I sold the XDS. But good luck with your testing and if you get a Shield, welcome back. I own four Glocks. They are extremely reliable, practical self-defense tools. Many manufacturers have copied the design concept i.e. the M&P and XD, but I have yet to see anything that surpasses the Glock in terms of reliability, durability and functionality, let alone competing with the proven track record. If I felt there was something I felt was somehow better as a weapon to protect myself and my family, I'd switch.

I am buying my duty weapon since we just switched out to the new Gen 4 pistols. I shot my new Glockeraina yesterday and the trigger was VERY crisp to my surprise.

I would suggest cleaning out the firing pin channel. We did all of ours and there was a lot of plastic shavings in there. Which is why I do thorough cleaning of ANY new weapon.

I'm not a huge Glockeraina fan either but I will buy my weapon for a song any day!

I'm not a Glock fan per-se, but after holding a 19 Gen 4 and the new 43, I think I might end up with one at some ploint.. The 19 Gen 4 just fit my hand better then any other Glock I've handled.

A Wheelie at heart!

Elliot45...I'll just look. A $10.00 rental is a gift. I just purchased in the last month a Ruger LCR 38Special +P. Light as a feather, Hi-Viz front sight. My winter edc is K-frame in the holster in my avatar. My summer get-up-and go is my Model 38 Smith. I'm a real wheelie at heart.

My Glocks (19 & Gen4 26 would definitely go with me if I went back home to West Virginia. Were I working the street again I'd have to go Glock.

However, having said that it NEVER hurts to look. - 'ole joe
