....I just bought my first pistol--an M&P EZ 9mm...got it so my wife could use it also...I wanted a 1911A1 which I used in the Corps, but kind of big for CC, and more expensive...
..so, I came here to you--you are the experts...thanks in advance for any and all help, etc
..I was in the USMC for 8 years--MOS 0341 Mortars--with 81s
..had a very tough and hard time in my first enlistment = Marine Barracks Hawaii/aka Pearl Harbor
...then did another with 3-6 and in about 3 and a half years, went to a lot of places around the world
..then I got married, had 2 kids, and then life got real tough! no more fun :)

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like my older brother. He joined the Army in 1959. Basic at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri then did his three years at Schofield Bks. He was in Honest John/Little John outfit and did deploy to Vietnam for a short time in early 60's.

...the rockets? now that is interesting!!
..I sometimes went to Schofield and Wheeler AFB, since I was a guard at the nearby Naval Base near Wahiawa....we went to the bases to drink, buy beer, etc etc

Welcome to the campfire!

I spent some fun Navy time at Pearl and at Kaneohe Bay.

You're correct, notwithstanding popular opinion to the contrary, a service sized 1911 is far too big for concealed carry. Lots of folks do it and brag about it but they have to take a lot of extra time for leather and such to make it doable. I give them a simple YMMV and ignore the braggadocio.

It's not the easiest thing in the world to obtain a handgun in Hawaii, never mind a carry permit. Good luck with that.

Welcome from Florida!

20 years ago I was an 81s Plt Cmdr. I still believe 0341s are the hardest and meanest breed of Marines the Corps produces. They still carry the systems on their backs and they haven’t gotten any lighter. I had my hands full keeping my mortarmen out of trouble in garrison, and when we got to Iraq all I had to do was maneuver them into position, take their leashes off and point in the direction of the enemy.
