I just read that we lost another great blues and rock guitarist,Alvin Lee.Probably most famous for his performance with Ten Years After at Woodstock.I saw them in St. Petersburg,Fla. in 1974.One of the best.

Yeah he was SCARY fast. I caught him & the band at the Civic Center in San Antonio, many, many moons ago. Godspeed, Alvin.

Sad news. RIP Alvin Lee.

He had mega respect from other great guitar players.

He was also one of the best teachers. I have several of his old VCR tapes. You can find them on you tube but don't get the music books that go with them. I learned a lot from his tutorials.

Sad....

Dude, was that was like the Bayfront center, or Curtis Hixon in Tampa I get them confused ,I don't recall seeing you there.:D;)

Back when you could afford to go to concerts. We went there and the original Tampa Stadium .

I gotta go dig out some vinyl.

Weeell... that stinks. :( Complications after a non-critical surgery. I wonder if he went the same way as Rory Gallagher, MRSA.

Sad news, and sad that Alvin Lee never really got much publicity/recognition. I resurrected my old stereo system and turntable last year. And ... I own that album (A Space In Time) on vinyl. Definitely will pull it out of the collection and play it this week. It will be good to get reacquainted with an old favorite.

Well, heck.

My ears couldn't hear as fast as his fingers could move. I remember watching his minutes in the Woodstock doc and thinking, "Did they speed this up?" and then deducing, "No, because then everything would be an octave higher." Then the conclusion struck home, accompanied by the immediate reaction: "Holy Cow!"

R.I.P. Alvin. I've got to believe that in your performing years you played three times as many notes as guys the same age did in their careers.

I've been a T.Y.A. freak since the late 60's and
still listen to them on a regular basis.

Back in the mid-80's a close friend & his wife were going out of town
for the weekend and their two kids came to stay at our place.
Our two oldest were about the same age.

Their son, Eric, was about 14 and knowing that I had been in
a band and collected music he came right out with "Eddie
VanHalen is the best guitar player that ever lived."

After about the umpteenth time that Eric had said that, I said,
"Let's go listen to something."

I pulled out the LP, SSSSH, released by T.Y.A. back in 1969
and set the needle down on, "I Woke Up This Morning."

When it was through I waited, but Eric didn't say a word.
Finally I said, well?

I can't remember exactly what he said, but,
he definitely had changed his tune. ;)

I then pulled out the Woodstock LP for a go at, "I'm Going Home."
Once again, I had to coax Eric to say something afterwards.
Both times he had been left speechless. ;)

Alvin has finally "Gone Home."
(another six strings down.) :(

R.I.P. Alvin.......

I once ask Jimmy Thackery, one of the best current pickers about Alvin Lee, he just smiled, and said "lightning fast", what a loss never got to see him live, but have a number of his albums. RIP Alvin.
