Ammo becoming available again

I spent a while today looking for .45 ACP and came up short....
even at palmetto State Armory and LuckyGunner.

FreedomMunitions screwed me so royally on a 1000rnd 223 order a while back that I'll never order from them again. Ordered 1000rnd Premium 223, they sent target practice garbage, then lied about it.

I probably have a hundred. I previously gave my son over a hundred and I now have a friend looking for some. I have a good number of 12 gauge, just not as much of the big stuff as I would like.

I stocked-up on “double-ought” about 8 or 10 years ago....probably “only” have a little over “500” rounds! ;) Which ....would be the least # rounds for anything at the house!

I do not mean to offend folks, though this surely will, I cannot fathom “not” being well-stocked on ammunition for all firearms owned. It would be much like having, car insurance, a spare tire, a few months supply of beans, rice, pasta, salt, sugar, medicines......and “Toilet Paper”! Just saying! ;) memtb

I was just on the phone and found some about a hundred miles north of where I live. I have to go that way tomorrow for a blood test, so will buy some more. I doubt I will buy 500 as I rely on 5.56 and 30 carbine.

Been able to find 9mm, .380, .32 H&R, but other than a few assorted boxes of odd cartridges the shelves are empty. FWIW, Cabela’s has Remington 9mm for $10.99, 5 boxes per customer.

Got to the suburban store this morning and there was a line of people in the parking lot. Would have had to have stood in line for an hour just to get into the store. I ordered 100 rds online this evening for less than I would have paid had I stayed with the store.

So let's see, we have people suggesting defunding police departments, a general election, a bunch of people who want to tear up the U.S. Constitution, one week of rioting over a lot of the country and a pandemic. Last week, I had four people ask me how to "get armed up".
Do you really think ammunition prices are going back down in the immediate future?

Gun sales are still brisk in my area but the medium to large stores are well stocked on both ammo and guns.

I went to a medium size store near me last week to buy 3 bricks of 22 and there were three AR rifle sales In progress and the guy ahead of me bought 2 matching s&w M&P autos. Don’t know the model. Anyway the walls and counters were full of guns with the exception of S&W revolvers. The counter was picked almost clean. There were no J frame 38’s and all but 1 357 had been bought. There were 3 29 or 629’s there but that was it. There was more than plenty of ammo though and at regular Discount prices.

Today Academy was wiped out on ammo, except for hunting rifle ammo.

Glass handgun case was utterly empty.

Only long guns in stock were a bolt action hunting rifles.

As long as we don't have another national emergency of any kind, everything should be readily available and back to normal pricing in the late fall.

Just bought a Ruger Compact 45 ACP two days ago from Buds.....
Out for delivery tomorrow !!!

I was expecting about 2 weeks.

Yesterday the handgun ammo shelves at the Portland, OR, Cabelas were empty.

As I mentioned above, I had four people who have virtually no interest in firearms ask me how to "get armed up" last week. It was reported in the local news that a LGS had sold 25,000 rounds of 9mm in one day. By my standards, that is a boat load of ammo. IMHO, it is a bit late to apply the 6P principle.

Joe has mentioned using Beto as his gun control czar. One might wonder how gun control is going to work as a campaign issue in November. I have a feeling that it is going to be an interesting November.

Without getting too political, this has been a climate which pushes ammo sales.

People were worried during Covid, with long periods of low employment. People are now on edge with the increased focus on "unrest". Periods of lawlessness always scares the hell out of the middle class, you combine some disposable income with an increased fear of being attacked.
With the upcoming elections, one side always seems to look at gun control as a key issue, which also scares the crowd- I remember people buying AR's "while you could", that I never considered gun-people.

My wife got a text from one of the couples in her bible study today and they want to talk to me about buying a gun.

They also had Rem. .22 shorts 2 100 ct boxes for $10. Probably not a huge market for them.

But there should be. I grew up shooting only .22 Shorts which at that time were somewhat cheaper than .22 LR. For fun shooting I still prefer using .22 Shorts, at least in those guns which will feed them, and I have several which will.

My favorite and choice of +P .38 Spl ammo, Speer Short Barrel 135 gr. and Remington 125 gr. Golden Saber have gone somewhere into the ether, I think.
Fortunately, I do have enough to tide me over, and sufficient components for reloading.

Went to my LGS yesterday and they were completely sold out of both hunting and self-defense ammo, and were down to very limited supplies of range ammo. Interesting times we live in...
