The problem is Remington! They have had a terrible problem with misfires in their rimfire ammo, which, in my experience, is standard velocity "target" grade sold in plastic 100 packs. They know about the problem, and have been working very hard to fix it because their reputation gets around quickly thanks to forums like this and "Rimfire Central". I have talked to and written letters to the facility in Arkansas when misfires would be in the range of 5-6%. The folks there as a good faith gesture sent me a "brick" packed the old fashion way of 10 boxes of 50, as the "new and improved" and asked for feedback. I will give it to them as soon as I finish the 500; so far I have had 4 misfires in 200 rounds, AND 2 split cases which had to be punched out. An interesting sidelight: in most of the misfires with this material, you rotate the bad round 180 deg. in the chamber and it goes off. Begs the question: how many "good" rounds fire only by virtue of position in the chamber? Weak firing pin strikes are not an issue.
With all due respect to S&W, my testing is done with my Browning URX Target 7.5" fluted bbl which will shoot with the 41's any day.
