I have fired my No. 2 using the long machined .32 rimfire cases from Dixie gun works, 5 grains of Pyrodex "P" for powder charge, and a .310 Hornady round ball. Velocity of the light round ball (over 1100 fps) was exceptional and accuracy was good at close range. The problem with shooting an oldie like this, IMO, is not that it is hard on the gun. The gun takes it just fine. The problem is all of the handling of the gun during shooting, and especially during the cleaning afterward. With a gun of the value of a No. 2, constant handling and cleaning will cause the fragile finish to deteriorate. So, after the fun of firing it, I have put my No. 2 back in the case.
