Ammo prices, are they really going down ?

I went on line the other day and just shook my head at some of the prices, being asked for a box of 20, for some rifles.

I can't believe that my little 22-250 ammo cost MORE to buy

than a box of 30-06 ammo !!

Something is very wrong.

Supply of 22-250 is much lower than 30-06.

Your absolute best bet is to use this as an excuse to set yourself up for reloading. You'll cut your ammo bill by 60-70% and you'll no longer have to worry about "availability" of a specific caliber.

For example, you'll find brass, powder, primers, and 22 cal bullets all over the place now. Finding loaded 22-250 cartridges would be much harder.

Not to mention you'll have more accurate ammo because you can tailor it to your specific firearm.

Ah yes, my math chip glitched. It's still cheap for self defence ammo.

Yeah, if you were in my classroom I'd need to take off a couple points although you might still preserve the "A" if your mom complains loudly.
As far as the ammo, these Silvertips don't look like those from 25 years ago. The bullet shape is about identical to Federal Hydro-Shok, just silver in color. Joe

Same thing I see. Popular calibers are available and coming down, somewhat. However, I did see a box of Federal 44 Magnum/50 rounds for "only" $70. That's why I reload...

Buzzed the local block of big-box stores for ammo today.
Cabela's, Academy, and Palmetto State Armory have additional selection but prices still between 1.5x and double the old prices.
First time since the pandemic I've seen .38spl and .357mag in stock together (though .38spl is 130gr). Good pile of AE 158gr JSP .357, though pricey.
Most selection and shelf space was variety of 9mm at about $20 a box.

Ammo and firearms are going to get costlier the next few years. We have a clown in office and people are going to want to protect themselves.

Of course they are. 1000 9mm is as low as 27¢. 5.56 is running 40¢ a round. The problem with other ammos is popularity. Less popular rounds, like 22-250 always cost more. It's something to think about when buying guns and it's why I passed on 6.5 Grendel.

I'm also shocked by how many people think good news is always a prelude to bad news. It's not factually true and dread is an unhealthy addiction. That said, it's part and parcel of the gun industry marketing strategy. Don't let them wind you up.

Shotgun shells at my Walmart are $10.43 a box for 12 gauge game loads. No deal there either.

Sad thing is that for all practical purposed you can't shoot your wheel guns anymore unless you reload. The old school cartridges, .38, .357, .44...pft!!! Can't tell you the last time I found 158 gr .38's. What I wouldn't give for a case of hard cast 158 semi wadcutter rounds in .38/.357 or 240 gr .44's. All those light "super duper zombie killing" rounds packed in 20's just don't do it. The old ways are the best and is what these guns were manufactured to shoot. Ditto with 9 and .45. They were designed to shoot 115 gr and 230 gr bullets. But I do likes me those flying ashtray .45's though

The last time I bought 158 Grain 38s it was the HSM Montana Remanufactured at Sportsman Warehouse.
Should have bought more! Haven’t seen any in a long time.

Shaw arms has Sellier & Bellot 38 Special 158 Grain FMJ for 20.49 for box of 50. FREE SHIPPING FOR ALL ORDERS OVER $50 FOR THE REST OF NOVEMBER WITH CODE BFRIDAY22

S G Ammo currently has Magtech 115g FMJ 9mm ammo on sale for $259.80 for 1000 rounds. That works out to $12.99 per box. I haven't shot much Magtech ammo, but what I have shot has worked well.

I jumped on that deal for Magtech 9mm at SGAmmo as soon as I got the email this morning. It did not last very long before it sold out. My case shipped this afternoon and UPS just texted me it will be here tomorrow. Just checked the website and Sam says more to come.

I suspect we'll see some Black Friday deals this month, but I really don't need much. Its just hard to pass up a good deal.

I really hit the jackpot a week ago. I was coming home from Asheville and decided to stop at an LGS that my brother in law had been telling me about.
Long story short, they had a Black Friday sale on Magtech 22 LR - 4 cents per round out the door, tax included! They were 500rd count bottles for $20
I bought 4,000 rounds or 8 bottles for $160 out the door tax included. Wish I had gotten more....

I traded some M2 Ball for some .38 Special target ammo this week . I never shoot the Garand anymore and I had plenty of ammo for it . Acquired a Model 19 S&W and I only had about 100 rds in my stash .
