Hey guys. I bought a Sigma sw9ve Friday, and have yet to fire it. I bought along with it a box of 50 American Eagle Federal ammunition. I have never heard of American Eagle, but I have heard of Federal (not sure if this ammo is considered to be the federal I hear people refer to). From what I have read, it seems federal ammo is garbage. Should I toss the ammo and buy a different kind? Is this ammo garbage? Thanks for your time.

American Eagle is Full Metal Jacket ammo made for target practice. It is not designed for self defense as in Hollow Point. I shoot it all the time using the same bullet weight as my Hollow Point self defense loads. I have never had any problems with it.

Federal Cartridge is owned by ATK, who also makes rocket motors for the space shuttle and other launch vehicles. They now also own Speer. They are the second or third biggest ammo maker in the U.S. They manufacture a great deal of ammo for the U.S. military and have been the contracted operator for the Army's Lake City ammo plant.

Federal's economy line is American Eagle and is often referred to as "red box."

Federal is high quality stuff. They make the Hydra Shock line which is usually rated as one of the best stoppers in each caliber.

My department of about 400 deputies (and I don't know how many armed correctional officers) uses Federal red box for training and qualification. I see thousands of rounds fired every year. I don't remember an ammo-caused stoppage.

Shoot it. Enjoy it. Buy more.

If you find any SAAMI standard or +P American-made factory ammo that the Sigma will not fire, please post what it was.
I haven't found any yet the Sigma won't handle.

Whoever told you "Federal ammo is garbage" will probably lie about other things, too.

P.S. Strongly suggest you read the Sigma owners manual carefully and follow the instructions.

I've used Am. Eagle and have never had any problems. Good price for range ammo.

When it comes to pistols, ammunition, etc., one should not be surprised that people have opinions. Sometimes those opinions are informed. In this case, the opinion expressed to you are uninformed. S&W produces excellent pistols. Your new Sigma sw9ve will give you very good results both in function and on target results. American Eagle ammo as produced by Federal is a quality product that you will enjoy using in your Sigma. Apart from verifiable fact based proof to the contrary, any opinion that Federal AE ammo is of poor quality must be considered as biased and unworthy of belief. Sincerely. brucev.

Aside from the ammunition if I were you I would clean the pistol thorougly and lube it according to your owners manual before firing it.
Manufacturers lube their guns with a preservative.

I use American Eagle 230FMJ in 1911's and S&W 625JM all the time, and have never had a problem. All weapons should be cleaned and lubed.

Yup American Eagle is great. Actually I would consider shooting it "shooting the good stuff" as far as practice ammo goes.

Blazer aluminum case, now there's some cheap ammo.

That ammo is just fine.

My department just got done burning over 50,000 rounds of AE ammo, no issues.
