AMMO TALK

I just picked up 100 rounds of Federal Lightning for 3.18 at Walmart. These any good? If so 550 would be around $18.

they aren't too bad, i get them for about 1.47 i went through about 15 boxes. they are not very accurate, but they cycled and fired flawlessly, and didn't foul the barrel.

anyone know anything about these?

Was hunting thru my stock of 22 Ammo and came upon a brick of old CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program - Olin white box 22 LR) white box. Brought three 50 round boxes to the range yesterday.... These are 40g round nose lead bullets.

They worked perfectly in both the 10 and 25 round factory mags. Not one failure of any type. The accuracy, off hand at 25 Yards was very good as well.

I had this left over from when my son was on the high school rifle target team... this ammo is about 8 years old now at least.

Just bought my 15-22 this week. Picked up a box of CCI AR Tactical to start with. Shot maybe 100 rounds with 4 feed malfunctions. Sorry - not sure the proper terminology. The round would not feed properly into the chamber (stuck at an angle) and the bolt would then hit and deform the casing. Also have a box of Federal Game-Shok that I need to try. Hope to find the most reliable ammo and stick with it.

Update:
Shot a couple hundred more rounds. Tried Federal Game-Shok, CCI Mini-Mag, Winchester Xpert, Federal 550 bulk, and more CCI AR Tactical.
No problems with any except the CCI Tactical (again). 2 failure to feed in 40 rounds. Not sure why - the spent shell ejects but the next one does not feed correctly. Gets caught at an angle and the bolt then hits and bends the case. Only on the CCI Tactical so I won't be buying those anymore.

On Sunday, I loaded some FIOCCHI 22 LR M. 320 Match ammo in the 15-22. These are fairly waxy very high quality target loads (not subsonic). They shoot very well in my Anschutz target rifle so I loaded up with quite a few cases as this ammo became available over the years.

The 15-22 performed perfectly with the RN lead head Fiocchi ammo. In fact, it has proven to be the MOST accurate ammo in the 15-22 that I have tested with favorable performance and cycling. At 25Y 25 shots went into a cluster no larger than a nickel (from rest) using a Truglo 4 MOA red dot sight.

This ammo dates from around 2003 or 2002, BTW.

^I'll try those out. Have yet to buy any "match" ammo

Ok where do you find or anywhere is it described what grain of bullet to use in your 15-22? in the first few post of this thread it states different grains weights Who came up with these? it is stated no where in the owners manual.Im sure a lot of it is trial and error since no 2 guns shoot the same even if identical

Take a closer look at page 10 of your 15-22 owner's manual. However, you're right in that most users here experiment until they find a particular round that works well in their rifle and then stick with that. I'm partial to CCI Minimags and Federal bulk 550 36g hollowpoints.

i pick up my 15-22 on tuesday and i bought some cci mini mags and some bulk 550 bricks of federal champ hp's. i found some federal american eagle 38gr. copper plated for 15.99 for a box of 400. so ill stop and get some of those also to see what works best for me.

Hey jay i seen you mentioned turners in one of your other posts, by chance where at in cali are you...

Me? Yup, southern California(San Bernadoo county). Actually, don't think they have any Turner's up north so I have to be from the south haha.

ok I'm from Socal also, i stay in west covina. I buy all my guns at turners. I wish they would carry the cci tactical. i cant find it any where around here.

Ammo brothers has a special rite now on federal american eagle 400 rounds of 38gr. for 15.99. Is this a good deal on this ammo?

Same here. Bent bullets, and you can wiggle the bullets in the case. I don't like it at all.

Noicee, I'm from Chino. Think I've seen CCI tactical being sold at Turners in an ad. They must have sold out. $16 sounds pretty good, I've never bought that bulk ammo before. Only have experience with American Eagle in 9mm.

yeah thats what i get it in and it works for me thru my hi-point 995ts. so i think ill give it a try in 22lr bulk.

I thought you were from Chino for a while there. Funny it took me until the end of my sentence to realize you were quoting me hahah =D
I don't quite understand American Eagle since Federal already has..Federal!

I've never looked at what a regular priced box of that goes for, though. American Eagle could be cheaper.

hopefully this pic posts.

ok well if this works this is federal american eagle. if you go to ammobros.com you can see the sale flyer. i was just wondering if this was a good deal. like i said earlier this ammo does me justice in my 9mm carbine so i thought i would give it a try in the .22lr. if anyone can chime in on this and give me some feed back that would be great. if not then i might have to be the guinea pig...

Go to the Chino Hills Turner's for CCI Tactical. They have a few boxes on the shelf.

Last box of CCI Tactical I bought had more wax than normal on them. It was causing alot of wax build up in my Savage Mark II but shot fine through the 15-22.
