I think I'm in the middle here. That price is lower than most premium factory ammo. It's stil higher than I'm willing to pay for defensive ammo since I've decided to use handloads.

Photoman, thanks for posting.

Hey Photoman 44, Thanks for the post. At least we know the long awaited return of Nyclad has finally become a reality. Now if we can only find some at a reasonable price......... Funny because when it was cheap, plentiful, and available I NEVER bought or shot it. Now I'm interested--go figure.........one eye joe

You're welcome guys.

p.s. I'll let you guys know when I find some $1.00 a gallon gasoline.

Considering I've read people paying anywhere from $19-$23 for the 20rd. box this is a better deal.
Thanks Photoman44.

As I've been saying, it isn't that there is no ammo available in many cases, it is that there is no cheap ammo.

That price isn't out of line compared to the prices of the "new and better" ammo out there these days. That is old stock Nyclad ammo so we know it's good. The new Nyclad ammo is packaged in 20 round boxes and will be priced at over $1 a round like Speer Gold Dot and the other top SD ammo offerings. At less than a $1 a round that's not too bad considering that's a box of 50.

Thanks for the heads up -Photoman...

I don't think its old stock. I've seen reports on other sites that mention boxes of 50rd. (for LEO) and 20rd. (for civilians) being available currently. Plus its the current load # P38M. I thought I read somewhere the load # on the older ammo was different.

Just my observation on some old stock Federal Nyclad, boxes of 158 gr. +P is P38G.
Boxes of 125 gr. +P is P38N. I don't have any old stock normal pressure 158 grain.

I think it is interesting that it has turned into a desirable self-defense round. I was reading some of the introductory factory info on it the other day, from 2 or 3 decades ago, and it never mentioned it being used for anything other than range ammo, suited for those places with lead-in-the-air restrictions.

Old stock of standard pressure Nyclad ammo is available and I know because I bought some. Unless the picture on the site is wrong that's old stock ammo. The new Federal box is totally different. I recently bought some Federal "FBI Load" ammo from them and I know it's new ammo because it's in the new box. I highly doubt Federal would put their newly re-released Nyclad ammo in the old box while putting their 158gr LSWC/HP ammo in the new box.

Federal has been known to do some misleading things in the past, such as introducing
"Low Recoil" ammunition that is in fact full power. I for one bought into it and their
"Low Recoil" 357 was indeed a full power load. Shame on them.

I have always liked Federal metallic ammo and especially the Nyclad line of handgun ammo. Yes the Nyclad jacket was originally designed to prevent lead from going airborne in indoor facilities, but they also found in the SWCHP it did not restrict the soft lead core from fully expanding. As I posted in a similar topic, the new Nyclad is for carry duty. With that in mind, the price is not really out of line with other high performance defense loads. I have some of the old stuff in 38 and 357. It shoots great and performs well. If you carry a short barreled revolver, it gives you an option along the lines of the Gold Dot ammo.

Must be an old photo as the ammo I just received from them is new production in the LE white/black boxes.
