Amo...again

So I have now put about 1400 rounds through my M&P 15-22. It is a blast to shoot and I have had ZERO issues...no FTF or FTE. I have only been shooting CCI AR Tactical amo, at the suggestion of a LGS. I have noticed this amo comes with a waxy-type coating. I am assuming this helps in feeding? The shop said it is some of the cleanest .22 amo you can buy. However, I wonder about the waxy residue turning gummy in the firearm. It is a bit more expensive then other bulk amo @ about $23 per 325 round package. I notice there are higher count packs of different brand amo for a couple of bucks less. Is it worth spending the extra coin on the CCI tact stuff or did I fall prey to good sales technique? Your thoughts?

I have found that in my 1522
CCI Blazers are less $, if you must CCI it..

All major makers of ROUND nose work fine. I just stay away from any hollow pts.

IMHO there is ZERO need to buy the most $$ for the 1522.
I own a Walther P22, now she is a true ammo queen. Anything other than 40gr round nose and she wont fire for a week just to get even with me

I recommend you try CCI Blazer bulk packs. You'll get more for less money, they shoot well, and even though they're exposed lead, they don't get things too messy aside from your finger tips. I was surprised to see that my bolt face, chamber area and barrel did not have a lot of gunk out of 700-800 rounds in one sitting I had a few weeks ago. Oh & definitely try out other types of CCI and other brands as well, just to see what else your gun works with.

I REALLY like the CCI Tactical in both my M&P15-22 and my Ruger 10/22TD because it seems to be the most accurate of any ammo I have tried. That said, my M&P has literally thousands of trouble free rounds of Federal 550 bulk shot though it. While not the most accurate it is much cheaper...3.6 cents/round vs. 6.3 cents/round. For everyday plinking the Federals get the call.

I recently stumbled onto the CCI Standard Velocity bulk packs at Dick's Sporting Goods as well. $27.99 per 1000. It is much softer shooting (if there is such a thing in .22LR), is more quiet and still cycles the bolt fine. Very accurate as well. The CCI SV is the exact same bullet as the Tactical but is lead vs. plated and is 1070fps vs 1200fps. It still knocks over bowling pins at 50 yards.

Most .22 LR ammo has a thin wax coating on the bullets, whether you can see it or not. It's there to lubricate the bullet. The coating is burned off as the round is fired. There's nothing left to gum up anything.

I've used Remington and Federal hollowpoints with a "five nines" degree success (that's 99.999%, or as close to 100% as anybody could ever expect to get). I also finished up the last of my Remington "Viper" and "Yellow Jacket" truncated cone solid and hp ammo that has been taking up space for 15-20 years. It was old, and it wasn't the most consistent, but it all fired. CCI Mini Mags, and just about everything else I've tried, all work fine.

FWIW, my wife's late model Walther P22 has been equally forgiving

I have shot all types of ammo with mine and have no problems at all with any of it. but have also found the CCI AR Tactical to be the best. well worth it in my opinion.

.22lr is so cheap anyways that 325 rounds of reliable ammo at 20 bucks or whatever is a great deal. I tested all of the different brands to see what I could get away with, and like most rimfires, mine was pickier with ammo than my buddy who has a 15-22. I prefer to stick with the CCI brand in general, those rounds have never let me down. However, my 15-22 loves the M-22's, and when I get them at a good price I buy the $#!^ out of them.
