The Yamaha GA-10 amp that will be going to my niece along with the Japanese Sorrento starter guitar is getting a speaker upgrade today. The original speaker is listed as 12cm or 4.75inch, but that counts the metal speaker frame. It is actually 4.5inch of speaker. It will be replaced by a Jensen Mod 6-15 which is listed at 6inch with actual speaker width of 5.75inch. The pic makes the difference in size look huge. In order to fit the Jensen I needed to carve out a channel in the bottom of the cabinet so it would clear the amp cage. I used a Dremel with a small rotary cutter for that. Hacked out a bigger hole in the speaker mount plate with a scroll saw. Going to recover that plate with a Fender style mesh.
The parts on the left of the wood skewer are from my Crate VC-508 combo tube amp. I have a bunch of capacitors and resistors coming to upgrade it. I had bought a 4 ohm Celestion Eight-15 to upgrade the other Yamaha amp and tried it in the Crate. Oh, myyyyy. Sounded so much better that I ordered a 8 ohm version of the same speaker for the Crate.
Still trying to decide which guitar to start working on next. Either the Memphis P-bass copy or the Yamaha Strat are the choices for now.
