Hello everyone I just purchased a 625-6 45acp today, and 1, would like to show it off a bit, 2, would like to know the year it was made sn# cfa7455, and what would be the best moon rings to use. And added info would be appreciated. Thanks

You barely missed the hilary hole, a fact which adds to the beauty. Although clearly made in 2001/2002 as stated, curious why it didn't get one as they started in mid-2001.

Mim parts but still a nice piece, not a big deal. I do like the bead blasted finish which adds to the uniqueness.

I also have one, it’s a tack driver with target loads. Unfortunately I had to put a high viz front sight on it with my 70 yr old tired eyes. Oh, and it’s ‘mood rings’ and ‘moon clips.’ Of course if your old enough you could wear your mood ring while shooting you nice Smith loaded with .45acp Lubaloy ammo loaded in moon clips. Enjoy your revolver, I’m done.

I have one, with a CDP xxxx serial number made the 333rd day of 1999, a year or so earlier than yours. It sat in the safe until last spring, and its a really nice, smooth, tight, good shooting .45. I shot all of my old .45 ACP ammo that I had left in it, then went to .45 AR brass. I really like the AR brass much better.

For moon clips, none are better than the ones from Ranch Products in Ohio. I believe they are the original maker of the modern full moon clip.

You scored a real nice revolver, from look of the finish it doesn't look like it has been shot at all. I have a nice 625-2 that is a real pleasure to shoot. I know you'll enjoy yours. As far as moon clips go, I've used Wilson Combat #69B5 full moon clips without any problems. I also use .45 Auto Rimed ammunition which eliminates the need for clips. If you reload and can locate some auto rimed brass, you may want to try it out.

Thank you all for your help and information. Can't wait to hit the range, but that won't be for a while seeing that its cold as hell up here in Canada.

Nice weapon. I have a very similar one and it shoots much better than I can hold. I have also had very good luck with the Ranch Products moon clips, though I have no beef with Wilson. I also have some of the plastic one made by RIMZ for occasional range use. Much easier to get the brass in and out.

Nice Smith! Congratulations!. Would like 1 myself. I also like RIMZ poly moon clips for range practice. Have metal ones also. Load 45 ACP, and not AR. Like to use the same ammo in revolvers, and autos. I have a 625 JM, and a 25-15 45Colt. Gotta love 45's! Bob

Rimz has 2 versions of their famed polymer moon clip. The 'standard' which is quite adequate for all range games and can easily be loaded by hand. I've come to prefer a simple tube-tool for unloading as it's even easier on my fingers.

The new Rimz I've recent acquired, is specified for range use only, as it has a more relaxed grip on the cartridge....almost what I'd call 'slack-jawed'. So far I've got limited use of them, but early indications are they will become my favorite version.

Metal clips are produced by many manufacturers, and have varying notions of tension for holding the casing. Some mfgers produce a given dimensional spec for specific makes of cases. While I've tried some with good results, the problem is I have a free-range variety of cases, which suffers the obvious of having a range of spec rim sizes. A few are simply too tight to fit certain cases. Control would require separating different mfgs into their own group size. I've no time for that, meanwhile the polymer Rimz models serve well. Some of mine have been in use for over a decade.

Range Report? To bad you are in Canada. Here in Florida it is comfortable.

I also have a 625-3. It shoots well. Changed the original grips for the Ahrends that are on it now.

Enjoy yours.

I also have a Model 625-6. Mine is a bit different from yours in that it is a 4”tapered barrel with a reinforced ejector lug. AKA Mountain Gun.

I have significant number of moonclips from Ranch Products. No complaints at all about the product or the people, and I think you can buy with confidence.

Ammo: There are good arguments for both 45 AR and 45 ACP in that platform. I've still got most of the 45 AR loads I bought some years back (I think Georgia Arms, with the 200 grain Gold Dot IIRC) - amazing tack drivers in both of my 45 ACP revolvers: 15 yard group almost exactly the size of a moonclip. On big advantage of the 45 ACP that likely will not apply as much to you in Canada is that you can get one of the proven duty loads for the auto-pistol and be sure it is a good performer for self-defense. I have "some modest quantity" of such.
