A good buddy of mine calls me this morning and asks if I want to buy his dang near brand new M&P 15 Sport II in FDE, in the box, along with 4 -30 round MagPul P Mags and 3000 rounds of Winchester 55 gr. 5.56 FMJ ammo in a brand-new ammo can. Of course, my first question is "How much?" He says for me, $1000.00, and if I want it, he'll bring it over in an hour. I told him I really don't need another AR but I'd be interested in buying just the ammo. He says "Nope, $1000.00 for everything, take or leave it". I tell him I'll see him in an hour. He brings everything over; I give him $1000.00 cash and call it good. The rifle is in pristine condition. Still coated in factory oil. I sure wasn't planning on spending a thousand bucks today, but I figured what the heck. He's happy, and although I was more interested in buying just the ammo, I suppose it never hurts to have another AR laying around.

Is that "3000" on the ammo a typo? Or was it really 300?

At todays rate 3K rounds has to retail for over $1K... what a deal!!

THREE THOUSAND! And retail is closer to $2000.00. I checked Lucky Gunner and the lowest price I could find for Winchester 55 gr. FMJ 5.56 (NOT .223) was $620.00 per thousand. A few LGS around here were $100.00 more than that. He was aware of the cost of the ammo alone and even mentioned it to me. So yeah, he did me a solid for sure.

Ummm, he sold you the ammo for half of current price and threw in the rifle and the mags for free.
I'd say "did you a solid" is a major understatement.

Whew! From your post, it sounded extremely painful! I'm glad it turned out so well for you. Great score!

Tennis pro: Say, I have this gun and I have some lessons tied up in it and want to sell it for what I'm owed.

Let me take a look. How much are you owed?

One seventy-five.

Sounds fair I can't give you all the money right now but if you can wait on it until I get paid next month I'll have it for you.

It's a deal.

And I handed over $50.00.

First of the month i handed over the rest. Then put a Colt/Armalite SP1 with 5 didgit serial number, with the first didgit being a zero, in the gun cabinet. Also at the same time put the Colt 3x scope, 5 magazines, 480 rounds of 55g ammo, the proper bayonet, and the metal bipod with the canvas cover and the cleaning gear in there at the same time. As of today I'm almost positive that SP1 has not had more than half a thousand rounds through it. Ooh, and that trasnaction took place in 1977.

So you bought 2000 rounds of ammunition and your friend threw in a free brand new rifle and another 1000 rounds.

Not a bad deal at all.

Ya Eric300 you got a helluva deal. I remember 20-round boxes going for $7 so at pre-COVID prices your ammo was $1050...so ya...nice rifle and mags for free if you look at it that way...plus...a private seller purchase. That's a keeper!

THREE THOUSAND! …He was aware of the cost of the ammo alone and even mentioned it to me. So yeah, he did me a solid for sure.

My dad once told me, "Lend a friend $20 and you own him, lend a friend $20,000 and he owns you." Point being, you can hold the $20 over his head. While upset him, good luck getting the $20k.
In this reverse case, I think "Two Large" solid are owed in return.

It's good to have friends like that. They buy something, then they don't want it. Then they dump it cheap.

That's a pretty amazing deal to be sure. Hopefully you're friend isn't struggling with an addiction problem or something else that is causing him to be foolish with his money. I know that all of us are in different financial positions, and what might seem like a lot to one person may be a mere drop in the bucket for someone else. To me, a couple grand is nothing to sneeze at and I really don't think that I could take that good of a deal from anyone I call a friend.

Geeeez…… thanks for the buzz kill. I was gonna ramble on about a friend that was constantly calling me whenever he was selling something cause he needed money. But the moment has passed
