1st model hand ejector

looking at a 1st model hand ejector 4 didget S/N, nickle plated (ORIGINAL FINISH) NO rust or loss of finish, bore dull will polish to shine, no pits in bore or chambers. original black grips(NO WEAR). Only marks on the gun are light scratches were the ejector touched the frame with the cylinder open as shells were ejected.Of course no box, It is a 32 smith & wesson CTG.
Can one of the experts give a ball park price

The gun is in a LGS can't get pictures .The gun is in at least 95%+or better . If i buy it I will post pictures .It has a 4xxx serial #
All i need is a ball park figure or idea

If we assume it does not have target sights, and does not have a two in. or six in. barrel and is in .32 S&W Long caliber ( not .32 S&W, as stated ) a ball park price/value at most gun shows should be $450 - $600 range. Ed.

You are correct ,NO target sights ,3 1/4? barrel and it is 32 s&w long The barrel is just marked 32 S&WI. I assumed it was 32 short.It is in beautiful shape . Not" for its age" as often said on G.B.
I do try to behave but these things (S&W) keep popping up and pulling me back in

Went to pick it up today and the salesman handed me the envelope from S&W with the letter in it . looked at it and read at the bottom that it is in original shipped form and it shipped to Phillip Bekeart & Co in California . How it ended up in Indiana might be a good story. Nobody at the store previously said anything about it being lettered.

I live right here in CA less than 200 miles from SF, and I can't even find anything shipped to Phil Bekeart!

I see that it has the long hammer spur.

Does it have a 3 or 4 screw side plate?

The letter is an additional bonus. It could be a little confusing about the serial # range: the Model 1896 actually had it's own serial # range as you probably know. The 32 Hand Ejector serial #s started over with #1 on the Model of 1903-2nd Model.

Jim It has 4 screws in the side plate and 1 to hold the crane in the frame .
When i got it the detente ball in the crane was gummed up with grease and not functioning soaked out the 100yr+ grease ,cleaned out the inside and lubed with a light oil . Will work everything then flush out the oil and lightly re lube it.

And happy to see the detent was still there! Sometimes being stuck like that is a blessing in disguise for those that aren't aware of it. Otherwise they go flying into the wild blue yonder no man, knows where.

Unfortunately, IMO, it was deleted from the 32 HE after the Model 1903-2nd Model. But some Ks and the Ns retained until WW II.

It is certainly an unexpected pleasure to receive first an unexpected letter and then second to find a famous name in it.

Your gun is also another nice illustration of the randomness of the serial numbers shipped in case of the Model 1896; you have an 8000 shipped in 1897, I had a 2000 shipped in 1899, and still own an 11000 shipped in 1900.
