I haven't used a Ankle Holster in years.
When I carried my BUG in an Ankle Holster, I wore in it on my left ankle,
right side. I was constantly knocking the weapon exiting and entering a vehicle.
What position do you find best?
Thanks,
Jimmy

I sometimes carry a Colt DS 3rd Gen in an ankle holster. Left ankle, right side. No problems so far. Never had a problem of banging it against anything other than the left side of my right ankle

Class III

P.S. Jimmy, I hope the stripper clips worked for you.

Carry on the inside of the leg opposite your strong hand. So if you are right handed you would carry on the inside of the left leg.

I do that every day and I don't bang it into the car at all. What part of the car are you smashing it into?

Bottom of the door frame. Possibly my replacement knees are not allowing my leg to lift high enough?

Hi:
The stripper clips worked great.
Thank you,
Jimmy

I don't often ankle carry for a whole host of reasons: (1) Pants cuff rides up when seated revealing the gun; and (2) I am handicapped and w/o going into detail, the gun is almost unavailable when walking w/my cane.

That said it does come in handy when making a long car trip or when I know I'm going to be seated w/my legs & ankles unseen under a table. It does have its applications, albeit limited for me.

I'm a two gun guy. I carry a Glock 27 on my ankle, and a S & W 340 PD in my pocket.

The Glock is good for seated access, and the pocket carry is good for standing access.

My alternative is a cross draw which is pretty good for both but requires a covering garment.

I learned a scary lesson on ankle carry years ago.I was blindsided by a big guy and we went to the ground.I ended up on the bottom and at that moment the lightbulb came on.
In my position I was unable to access the J frame on my ankle, but guess who could? All he would have had to do was turn his head and look back to see it,then reach back with his right hand and draw it.
It's what I refer to as an epiphany. I got him off me and came out better than he did.I got lucky. He happened to be an individual that I had arrested before and, though he was drunk,he recognized me.
I will not use ankle carry to this day. I won't hammer anyone who does, but I feel that it has more disadvantages than advantages, and is a dangerous practice.
I was off duty at the time and the J was all i was carrying.
I prefer to have a backup these days, and one that is accessible with either hand. Just my experience and opinion.
YMMV.

Have worn one on & off for 30+ yrs. Inside ankle opposite strong hand. Its second nature that I check my pant leg every time I sit down or get up / out (even when I dont have it on).

In the almost 34 years I spent in LE, I carried a handgun in an Ankle Holster for a little over 25 years. I'm right handed and I carried on my left inside ankle. I started out carrying a dehorned J Frame and about the last 15 years carried a Sig P230 as a backup. It was always a backup to my duty weapon.

I still carry in an ankle holster every now and then.

Rule 303

Currently my BUG is inside left ankle. I prefer to have it set up so it is easier to access with my weak hand. Figuring I might be trying to keep hold of my duty gun with my strong hand.

I carry either my 442 or my M&P9c as a BUG in a Desantis Apache weak side ankle. I find it very comfortable, but ankle carry doesn't work for everyone.
