I just picked up a 3" M66-3 as a partner to my 3" M66-4 off another forum. Couldn't resist, and actually paid less than I paid for the 66-4.

The -3 has the hard-chromed hammer/trigger, and the earlier squared off rear sight leaf. the -4 has case-hardened hammer/trigger, and the rounded end rear sight leaf.

Made me wonder if there is a list of the various dash models and their modifications.

Any help out there?

Thanks.

I posted on another thread about my recent purchase of a 2 1/2 inch 66-4. It joined my two 2 1/2 inch, 3 inch and 4 inch. I didn't check the dash until after the purchase. It had the flash chromed hammer and trigger that I strongly prefer. (In fact I will not buy a 66 without the flash chroming. Just a personal choice.)I'm now wondering if the hammer and trigger were switched or was just S&W using up parts on hand.

Probably a transitional change in parts as I have a snub 66-4 with flash chrome trigger and hammer as well. Mine also has the older style cylinder release. Mine dates to a 93 I believe, but production on the -4 wasn’t until 94.
