I posted a couple weeks ago with some questions on these 32 Long revolvers and got some good answers....enough for me to grab a estate sale gun from non-gun folks. The backstory was it was grandfathers gun but no one remembered him ever shooting it. Given to the father when grandad passed and supposedly father bought a box of ammo and shot 1 round and put it up forever. Father passed no one wants it around and I get to see it first time since 2008 in daylight.

It did come with original (pencil numbered to gun) maroon one piece box, patent date in box of December 28, 1920, yellow end label, s/n 514771 matches barrel flat, cylinder , bottom of round butt frame. LERK, round blade front, sq notch rear, smooth trigger, checkered hammer spur. 4-1/4" bbl, black hard rubber grios with S&W monogram. leaf mainspring, 5 screw I Frame, frame has 1 line Made in USA on right side, small S&W logo left side under standard cylinder latch. EVERYTHING seems to line up with 32 Hand Ejector - Third Model as described on page 143 of SCSW 4th, including 1919 to 1942 serial number range of 263001 to 536684.......UNTIL.....

Checking details of 32 HE on pg. 143 I've got some things that don't jive with SCSW 4th, or I've got an oddball, or I've got some sort of post war parts, but pre-war frame or some sort of "transitional" made up of who knows what.

Discrepancies: My barrel marks "Smith & Wesson" LEFT side, "32 Long CTG" RIGHT side....exact opposite of SCSW 4th. the post war caliber marking was "32 S&W CTG" according to SCSW 4th.

Another point SCSW says the address is a 4 line on right side of frame, mine is clearly 1 line...so typo? or ??

Also post war serial numbers are supposedly 536685 to 712953 and dating from1946 to 1960.

So I'm still thinking that I have a third model 32 HE with some minor marking differences.....What say you experts?

UPDATE: JANUARY 21, 2025: ROY JINKS CONFIRMED MY GUNS SHIP DATE OF DECEMBER 1939...SO DEFINETLY A PRE-WAR 32 HAND EJECTOR, THIRD MODEL.

It really doesn't matter what it is as it will be a pleasure to shoot as soon as I can get outdoors, the people were happy to get 8 Grants ($400) from me which I thought was fair and they also handed me a box of Remington-Peters 98 grain LRN factory ammo with guess what??......exactly 1 round missing!!:D

Guess I bought the story too.....enjoy the pics and please let me know what you think or comments.

Pics of box for 32 HE 514771

more pics of the box and papers. Forget the cleaning rod as it is at least 45 caliber and wouldn't fit this gun, no one from the family had any idea where this thing came from.

You have a late pre-WW2 .32 Hand Ejector Third Model. The good book (SCSW 5th) says SN 536684 was the end of the run for these in 1942 when all production switched to wartime needs.
The 4-line roll marks didn't start until circa 1948. The barrel marks went through several variations. .32 Smith & Wesson Long CTG, .32 S&W Long CTG, .32 Long CTG.
Very nice! You did well!
