So I recently posted pics of the nickeled model 59 that showed up in my LGS. I figured I needed a blued example to go with it (I've had a couple in the past but let them get away). So I started watching a few on Gunbroker. This one had a starting bid of $325, so I bid that and forgot about it- ended up getting it for that (plus tax and shipping, of course). From the pics on GB, it looked decent but maybe not outstanding as far as condition, when it arrived I was very pleasantly surprised - it was actually quite nice! So I have a pair now. Have shot the nickel one already, will give old blue a workout soon.

Shot 35 rounds of Winchester 124 gr. NATO through the blue one this afternoon. Flawless, hits where its looking. I love these old guns! Reloaded the mag with the remaining 15 and put her up for now. Cold, rainy, windy and yucky here today, and tomorrow, with 45 mph winds. Ready for spring.

Ya did great and I must have missed that one as I'm looking to replace one that "escaped" a couple of years ago. (As a semni-consolation prize I saw a Ruger P95 for a pretty good price and scooped that up).

Am still looking for a 59 (doesn't need to be any more than a good functioning "shooter") at a price I can afford (and not the 6 or 7 or 9 hundred $ listed on gunbroken. (A nice 2nd gen would be just fine as well.)

Again, nice score.

I've never owned a P85/95 Ruger but they seem to be a great gun for the money, and sometimes sell almost ridiculously cheap! Good catch. Hope you find you a good 59; they're out there.

I went to Rural King at lunch today and bought another 300 rounds of Federal range fodder, so I've got some shooting stock. After deer season closes out here in a few weeks I plan to get busy casting 9mm bullets and loading up my own range ammo.

Funny you should say that. I had never seen a Model 59 in the wild until the day I saw mine at a LGS a couple of years ago. Since it seemed so rare and the price was right I picked it up. Immediately afterwards they seemed to pop up out of the woodwork... another LGS got one in, and then a local Cabelas had two of them. Not sure why they are suddenly showing up everywhere, but if you want one I suggest finding it now before the prices start to climb.

I did dress mine up with some wood grips from an eBay seller in Thailand. They bulk up the grip slightly but look so much better than the black plastic.
