Another call from Social Security.

I got a call today from Social Security. A female voice, slightly accented, told be I was being contacted for improper activity on my account and they were going to suspend my IT. For more information press 1.
A moreheavily-accented male answered and asked why I called.
"You called me. I'm just returning your call".

"Would you like to know the nature of the activity on your account?"

"Yes."

"Before I can tell you, you need to give me your name."

"You should already have my name. You called me."

"All right, M*****F*****, you are really going to be in big trouble now." [click]

Yes, you have heard that right. He had the nerve to hang up on me, before I could even get his street address and GPS coordinates.

For the record, SocSec NEVER 'cold calls' anyone. Ever.

I've gotten several of those in the past six months. I just hang up. The government will send a letter if they need something.

However I have received a couple of calls that start out with "Hello grandpa". I used to hang up on them but now I just go along and let them talk. Most of the times they are in jail and need bond money. At that point I just tell them to stay in jail. Had one guy call me a (expletive) and hang up on me. Oh well.

I never answer my phone unless I know who it is. Any other caller will leave a message if they are legit.

I love those calls, I have so much fun screwing with them. First one I got was in April of 2019.

My wife LUVS to mess with these guys . She got one today and called the number . The guy answered this is George ( in a heavy Indian? accent .) She said " Thank you so much for answering . My name is Sharon Potter and I'm a manager with AT&T . (Which she is) She asked for his SS# and Federal ID# as they were getting complaints from people about fake calls . She asked if he or his boss were willing to help capture the people doing this . All she heard was silence followed by a click .

This dude got off easy , she has a whistle by her phone she uses if she's in a bad mood . She used it on one of those fake Amazon calls one night . They kept calling back until she pulled the plug on the phone . After 35 years with AT&T , she has no use for these people ghosting phone numbers and trying to scam people .

Not sure why anyone would answer the phone if they don't know the caller and why they are calling.

I got one several days ago. My SS account is "locked down, and will remain locked until I call this number back now. Or you can push 1 now".
I guess it is still locked down.

I got two breathless messages recently, purportedly from Apple, that my iCloud account has had suspicious activity. Please press one for more information. Since I don't have an iCloud account, I pressed click.

I had that call. I asked him why everyone at SS has an Indian accent. Then he got mean, I laughed and hung up.

Kinda like when they call about the warranty on my vehicle expiring. I own a 2019 and a 2020, and my daughter has my 2010 Subaru...long expired!
"Alloh? Thees ees, uh, David. You have over been paid your social security! You must to pay back now, or you will have FBI at your house step!"

A couple of years ago, on the 4th of July to be exact, I got a call from someone who said I hit his car in a parking lot and I had left my phone# on a note in his windshield. I don't recall that ever happening except about 20 years ago in an uppity Hollywood area. But anyway I asked what the phone # was on the note. He wouldn't tell me. He got belligerent and said he was running out of patience etc. Wouldn't even tell me where, when, or what name was on the note. I actually didn't catch on to the scam until a few weeks later. But when I told him to call law enforcement he hung up. I called back and the number wasn't in service.

I had someone from the Windows Help Desk threated to burn my house down when I wouldn't cooperate with him. I asked him how much matches cost in Mumbai. He got rather incoherent after that.

At least once a year I get a call wanting to cash me out of my time-share.
I suppose I should ask for some earnest money before we discuss it.

I finally found an app for my phone that can block entire ranges of numbers. I think it is named Simple Number Block. When I get a robocall, I just block the entire exchange. It seems to be cutting down the junk phone calls.

I like the ones for a Medicare supplement. I tell them that between Medicare, Tricare for Life and no cost meds from the VA I have no out of pocket health care expense so unless your are going to pay me to go the doctor leave me alone.
