Another Highway Patrolman to the pile, a 28-1

Jackpot!:

What year would a dash one have been manufactured?

GF

(S 225243 looks like the #)

The book says the change was 1960, but it could be that the order for it was given, and no 28's got the dash one changes until '61 or '62 even. One this rare, who knows.

I wouldn't be surprised if you find a mint one somewhere GF.;):D

I couldn't believe my eyes!! I have been around here for quite awhile and no one has seen a 28-1 until now. And a 4 screw frame to boot! You absolutely must get that lettered.

Congratulations. You may have the only one ever made! Well, probably not, but there are not very many, for sure.

A great find that has been talked about for years. Similar to the reporting (quite a few years ago now) of a Model 29-1 with a 4-screw frame and an extractor rod with a left hand thread. Just curious, is there an L stamped on the rear surface of the cylinder?

Bill

Bill - I talked to OP on the phone right after initial post and asked him about the the L stamp on cylinder.........
He said that it has the L stamp

He also posted a pic earlier tonight of the L Stamp on the cylinder in the ultimate HP thread started by AllenFrame It has a H and an L stamped on the cylinder.

It's a Miracle!

Amazing! Congratulations on a truly unique acquisition. I feel privileged to even gaze upon a picture of one. I also live in Tempe. Does your gentleman acquaintance have any more one-of-kind guns that he'd like to sell?

Thanks for all the comments gentlemen. It was an extremely lucky find but, I do not do lottery tickets. My next search will be for Jimmy Buffet's lost salt shaker.
My other S&Ws are rather common, a 4" 1955 HP, a 4" Model 28, a 4" 28-2 and a 6" 28-3 rounding out the HPs with a 4" 25-5 and a 2 1/2" 19-2.

As my dad would have said (God rest his soul), "Oh my!"
I've been looking for a dash one for maybe 30 years! This is the first one I've ever seen. Good going!!! Congrats on finding an extremely rare bird. This encourages me to keep looking.
WOW!

Congrats on your find. I would say that's the Holy Grail of the HP's for sure ... The first one I've ever seen Very Nice Indeed...

Thanks for sharing
