I am wanting to get into IDPA shooting but have a question. Would it be legal to use an M&P 40FS with a stock smith 9mm barrel? If so, is that considered a modification that would take it out of the SSP class? Thanks.

That always comes with a bit of a debate. S&W offers an M&P in 9 mm so you'd think you'd be good to go...but the wrinkle is that Smith doesn't offer a 9mm version of the M&P40... So it is kind of up for interpretation...is the M&P the model or is the M&P40 the model?...I think for any local level matches you'd be good to go but not sure about anything more official.

Well great.....
I already installed an apex sear and with the 9mm barrel, that M&P 40-9 is quite the shooting machine now so I was hoping it would pass muster. Well, looks like I need to go buy another gun now! Oh darn......

The way i read the rule book is that if it's available as a factory part on the same line of weapons it should be okay, just like the case with some glock parts. Am I wrong?
