S&W choice ?

If you had a choice between a Smith & Wesson CSX E-Series 3.1" barrel 9mm and a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard Carry Comp .380, what would you choose and why?

I personally would go with 9mm over 380 every time. Cost of the ammo is the first thing and as far as I know there is nothing that 380 does better than 9mm. Maybe getting a smaller gun in 380 but there are plenty of micro 9mm guns out there these days.

No 9mm is as thin as a Bodyguard 2.0. Few other .380's are as small and thin as a Bodyguard 2.0.

Welcome aboard from coastal North Carolina. Please take a few minutes to tell us about yourself and what your plans are for the handgun.

I've never held nor shot either the S&W CSX E-series 3.1" or the Bodyguard Comp Carry .380 pistols. Therefore, I can't tell if either has a nice balance.

Hand fit is extremely important for me when buying a handgun for range or carry service. I used Handgun Hero to do a comparison of the two and an idea of their features in lieu of handling. The grip measurements for each appear to be lacking a good combat grip for my hands. I'm not a fan of a ported barrel for nighttime shooting - too much flare. Neither pistol weighs enough to moderate its recoil effect, and I'm concerned that both would be snappy and jumpy in my hand.

That said, it boils down to ammo cost over the life of the gun. So, 9mm.

What Golphin said. My preference is 9mm and only 9mm. My wife has a Shield EZ in .380 acp. The .380 is lighter and smaller, if that is an important difference for you. If not, 9mm CSX all the way.

I have the CSX-E and carry it every day. I have large hands and like how it fits me. Grip angle is great. I have had NO issues with it either, unlike my BG2.0. I've fixed that guns sight misalignment and am able to deal with the recoil spring problem. Because of this, I happily recommend the CSX-E. Hope that helps.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of great info and great people here. I've never owned a .380, so maybe be biased bit I have a 1st gen. CSX and I really like it ! So I'll vote that way. Plus as others have noted the ammo advantages of 9mm as to cost.
