Another ex LE second gen to get the Scotchbrite & beadblast treatment, this time a model 639 that I bought years ago as a police dept. trade in locally, and carried off-duty for a long time (during the cold season). I had replaced the original ambi safety with a third gen, but since I only had these NOS smooth grips to put on it, I installed a single sided safety, just didn't have the guts to cut the right grip panel....I'll have to keep looking for a correct set....

BRAVO, absolutely gorgeous. I like how you broke the sharp edges on the gun . You do great work. I have my 2 running perfectly now, next is a trip to the beauty shop

Thanks for the compliments, I should also add that it wears a 669 bobbed hammer, which was installed shortly after I bought it, makes concealed carry vastly improved...that and the original spur hammer looked like it may have been used to drive nails with....long since trashed with the Pachmayr grips it wore as a duty weapon....

Cook74, I simply give them a coat of Renwax, that's it.....I wax all my guns with it, great for storage....although this is an all stainless pistol, they will rust under the right (wrong) conditions....

Finally found the correct ambi grips, here it is with its brothers....(its the one on the bottom)....and by itself, also posted in a previous thread

I love the 639. I have been trying to track down one for a while, nice to see there are others that love them as well.

Nice lookin pistol. When I saw the thread title I thought "how do you refinish stainless?"

Those grips make all the difference. It was a good looking gun
before, but with the new grips its really nice.

I have one of it's brothers and love it. I just put the wood furniture back on the other day. Sure looks better than the Pachs. Nice work.

The 639 was my very first gun purchase. I foolishly sold it back in the early 90's, what a shame. Gorgeous pistol, BTW.

The 639 is hands down one of my favorites, something about a stainless pistol with wood.....I purchased the top one many years ago LNIB, and just recently purchased the unfired one in the middle from a fellow forum member......

Beautiful 639 grif684. Very nice work! :) I'm a big fan of single stack 9mm's. Regards 18DAI

grif, really nice work on your 639, it looks better than new. The 39 series pistols are the most pleasing to the eye autos ever made IMO. I got this one off Gunbroker awhile back, had wanted one with a round guard for a long time and spent a bit to much for it. I actually prefer the square guard for shooting, I passed one of those up NIB at 600.00 and figured I made a mistake before I even got home.

grif684, you did an excellent job on your 639. Both of you guys, I really like your 639 pistols with the round trigger guards!

Thanks wproct, and Keith, I love those grips, one of these days soon I think I'll be placing an order with you for a set, every time I see your grips on a 39 I wonder why I haven't sent you some of my "toy" cash......just beautiful....and I totally agree with the trigger guard preference.....
