We watched Dark Winds yesterday on the AMC channel. It is a Western noir thriller crime drama. It follows 2 Navajo police officers in the 1970's Southwest. The first episode was interesting and we'll watch the second tonight.

The second episode was as interesting as the first. Now we find out Chee is a plant. I wonder which side he will end up on.

I will be looking for his books. It looks like the Hillerman series spanned a few decades.

Thanks for the Heads Up.
Knew it was coming, lost track of when.
A number of Movies and TV shows are based on Hillerman works.
I thought I had seen them all, but when I looked I see several I don't recognize.
Tony Hillerman - IMDb

If you go the book route, stick to the one's by Tony Hillerman. The later ones by his daughter ...............suffer.

If you know the books, the TV version, ah, has issues. But, still appears to be better than most.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tony Hillerman through a mutual friend. Had lunch with him at one of his favorite haunts, the Frontier Restaurant in Albuquerque. At that time I had read all of his Leaphorn/Chee books to date.

During our lunch, I casually told him that while I thoroughly enjoyed his books, he didn't seem to know much about radios or firearms. He paused in thought, and then said "Well, it hasn't kept me from selling books, has it?"

I couldn't argue with that.

I've really enjoyed Hillerman's books over the years, and would like to watch the series. Too bad I have to buy yet another streaming service to do so...

Edit: Look what I found... :p

Gotta be the shortest Hillerman novel he wrote at only 214 pages....

We cut the cord on our TV about 10 years ago, and have not regretted it. Nowadays the only thing hooked to the TV is dvd/blueray player for watching old movies.

Thanks for the recommendation! Was just looking for something new to watch. My friend bought me a firestick for my birthday so now i have a new "toy" at home. Trying to figure out how everything works and make some simple installations myself. With the help of firestick tricks it kinda works.

I hardly watch any new shows but this one looked good. And then I saw it was set in 1971 and that hooked me. That meant sixshooter in cop's holsters and no Glocks. Sure enough, the main guy appears to carry a Model 19. I saw his grips were not Diamond pattern so I checked 1971 S&Ws and unless I looked at the wrong picture, Diamond grips were not used then. I also like rural cop shows like Longmire.

I think they were discontinued around 1967.

The used M28-2 I was issued in '79 came with diamond grips that were pretty worn so I replaced them a couple times until Pachmayr's were authorized. Wooden grips routinely get beat up on service revolvers.

I have watched Dark Winds first 2 episodes and have my DVR set to record the third episode. I hope it picks up a little because so far it is pretty slow. If the third episode is not any better I'll just watch Gunsmoke.

Well, I will have to admit that the third episode tonight of Dark Winds was certainly better, and the plot thickens. I will watch the coming episodes also. The one good thing about recording Dark Winds is the fact I can fast foward through the commercials, and the show is certainly eat up with commercials. I really like the scenery around Monument Valley. I have had a picture of Monument Valley for the lock screen and home screen on my iPhone and iPad for years. Beautiful area.

We record Dark Winds as we do many shows. It allows me to pass the advertisements by fast forwarding. After last night's snoozer, I'll pass on future episodes and catch up at a later time if I learn it has gotten better. So far, it's been like watching a documentary on Navajo culture on a PBS channel.

Another new favorite to watch, especially considering whats on the big 3.
