Let's pretend-

The "Petepeterson Act of '16" was passed and it is now law that you can only keep two types of cartridges (calibers or gauges.).

What two do you keep and why? Obviously, hunters may struggle more than strictly CC folks.

My first thought was .22 LR, but I think it limits things too much.

I only have 3 flavors and most are .45acp or 9mm.....the one red headed stepchild in the bunch is SP 101 .357 magnum.....and it has always been my favorite round for the simple fact I never feel under gunned carrying it..... when my wife lets me:D....so .357 magnum and .45acp for me.....and that hurts cause I love my 3913NL;)

Since I have for the last 44 years lived exclusively on deer, elk, and antelope that I shot myself, a big game caliber rifle is the top of the list. Of the scores of big game calibers I have owned and used over the decades, I see no better round than the 30-06 for my type of hunting. I have used it almost exclusively for the last 28 years and it has accounted for all my families meat needs and can see no end in sight. The next round is a head scratcher. While small game can be a tummy filler, most small animals does not have the fat required for proper digestion. So the 22 lr probably would not make the cut, and I love the 22. Since food procurement was handled by the 30-06, the second round would for protection. Since I neither live near and seldom go to town, a concealment handgun does not make the cut. In fact no handgun makes the cut. I would choose a lightweight carbine that had been shortened for handiness and would be chambered in a mid powered handgun cartridge like a 357 or 9mm. Big enough to kill a deer close and could be loaded down for the occasional duck, goose, or rabbit. Yet still be at arms length whether in a sleeping bag, or beside the bed, or under the seat of your 4 wheeled transportation. I know of many old timers who have never owned a handgun for either food or protection.

Remember, it's not two types of firearms, it's two cartridges. Your choice of .357 or 9mm opens you up to as many of that chambered gun as you like.

Well then if we can have as many guns as we want and just 2 calibers, then a 9mm self loader would be my choice for a handgun rifle combo. The handgun for self defense and the carbine so chambered as my "knock about gun" as I call them.

There isn't much I couldn't hunt around here with a .357 lever gun, or a .357maximum revolver.

Is suppose a 12ga would be the next choice for harvesting game, as well as home-defense.

Well .22 LR can be replaced with a slingshot and airguns.

A shotgun can load via the muzzle. A double will work for hunting. A cut down double will work as a social thing.

A big bore handgun...eh, I can get a Walker.

A game getting rifle....well that can load from the muzzle too.

Carry gun...well an 1860 Army or 1858 with a stout load will work. It is Wyoming so I can carry two and a large bowie knife or sword.

I guess I probably just would not bother with cartridge firearms any more for most things. Would likely be all sorts of interesting steampunk muzzle loaders coming to market.

Just a 9mm and 5.56mm in case of zombies I guess.

I will have a 12 pound mountain howitzer cast for werewolves and sasquatch. With double cannister, it should work on trespassers in general....Though I suppose we would shortly be arguing if a 16 pound Napoleon or 32 pound cannonade might be better.

Does brass and plastic count?

I would chose .357 mag and .308 and make my wife choose 9mm and 12ga.

Well, it's kinda like the Affordable Health Care Act. I'm not really sure what's in the bill. We passed it, now we'll figure it out.

Unless your wife lives in a different house, you can only have two! See, I'm making it up as I go along...
