Yes, and you can have all the arms you wish to bear. Just no ammo. Your ATF-issued card would show the two types you could buy. Maybe I should stop before some "random visitor" gets any bright ideas!

If you don't think a black market on ammunition and reloading components wouldn't spring up overnight you are living in a dreamland. Fact is there is currently a rather sizeable black market for guns and ammo in many cities like Chicago or New York that the ATF doesn't seem to be the least bit interested in doing anything about.
 
I'd probably go with a .308 on a M14 or AR-10 plarform. Works for defense, big and medium game. The other would be a 12 ga. shotgun. Nothing more versatile than a good 12 ga., it works for small game and birds, big game to at least 100 yds., self defense, you name it. I think I could cover just about any need with those two.
