I have been looking for a while now and finally came across this box of Remington Kleanbore 38pl head stamped (rem umc .38 spl) 37 of them along with 13 semi wad head stamped (peters .38 spl) at a local antique store. $40.00 for all. The ammo is in very good condition, box is fine, has all it's flaps in place and in good shape for it's age. I was there just at the right time. This displays well with my Navy Helmet and Navy Victory..

Sal, the SWC rounds are nothing special. They are service ammo that replaced the LRN ammo in many LE agencies. I remember them from the 70s to 80s time period. At shows, I would examine older boxes of ammo: it was common to fill in missing rounds with rounds of a different provenance, or even handloads. Aggravating, especially if you were only interested in the original ammo from the box.
I can't comment on the others: there were MANY types of .38 Special ammo produced over the decades, lead and jacketed.

The box has the Kings Mills address on it. This was used during the period after Remington/DuPont purchased Peters Cartridge company. Basically late 30's into WW II. May have been some left over boxes used up just after the war but the post war labels had dropped Kings Mills as the Peters plant was closed down.

The jacketed ammo and the box are WWII issue for the US military, mainly Navy. A nice find, they are not particularly common these days. Victory collectors would really like to have them.

That crimp line on the Lwc case is rather high for a 158 gr.
Did they make 125 or 110 Lwc design bullets back then ?
Speer had a 140 sjLSP , that I know of but it was not loaded by Peters.

Remington and Peters switched to the R-P headstamp in the early 1960s, so a Peters headstamp indicates it was made before that. I am unable to find a Peters catalog, including the final one of 1962, which lists a .38 Special round loaded with a SWC bullet. They could be reloads.

Yes they look like WWII issue to me as I think that is the only ammo loaded with that bullet by Remington. If it is really loaded to 850fps it would be pretty hot.............
