I've had my M&P9 pro for about 6 months and have around 2k rounds through it. Love shooting my steel targets with it and am fairly accurate to 25 yards. I've never been happy with the long travel and gritty feel of the trigger. Apex offers 3 configurations of the FSS kit. Poly trigger, Alloy trigger and Flat face alloy. I would appreciate any tips and advice.

I use the FSS kit with poly trigger and the lighter spring. I also use the RAM and APEX ejector. I have no reason to consider a Flat Faced Trigger because I am perfectly happy with the APEX original. This setup will give virtually zero takeup and about 1/4" reset.
I also use this recoil spring too which I have found works great in my 4.25" M&P Pro but is hardly noticeable in my P226.

I have an Apex comp kit (not a FSS) in my pro and love it. After just under 13k rounds the thing has about a two pound pull, short reset. It's just about as good as you can get with a plastic gun. I wanted my gun for ssp in idpa so the fss was out. A good friend of mine has a pro with the fss for esp with probably twice the rounds on it. It is also a real nice trigger but we each think ours is better.

I would recommend polishing whatever kit you decide on. I did not and it took too many rounds for it to really get to the point where it is at now. I have to believe that if I took a few minutes before installing it to polish it, it would have been even better sooner.

Perhaps just go with the poly trigger. I like you have been pretty happy with my Pro the past 3 months that I've owned it. However, if you compete in IDPA having the Apex trigger bumps you out of SSP to ESP. Stock service pistol to enhanced service pistol

To thoroughly confuse the issue, I've installed all the Apex triggers and prefer the flat faced alloy FSS by a wide margin. Of course if you're going to shoot IDPA or other production class competition then that would have to be a consideration. I shoot USPSA Open and Steel Challenge

Apex FSS with Poly Trigger - totally transformed my Pro 4.25. Clean, crisp break at 3lb 12oz with very little take-up and short reset. Lanbo's Armory was the lowest price I found.

A guy I work with shoots IDPA and I've been to a few shoots. I still know very little about it but have thought that I would give it a try. I'm not sure which class a beginner would shoot in or what mods require moving up. The advice from all of you has been very helpful. Any more advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

My advice is to not make any modification. The secret to better shooting is practice. Having an aftermarket trigger does not make you an expert shot any more than possession of a violin makes you a musician. Given the number of posts I see related to malfunctions that seem to crop up after installation of such devices, it seems one can make a good case that such modifications can actually be troublesome. In addition, even if it works, does it matter if you go from "minute of paper plate" to 1/2 inch less than that?

Very good point. When I raced motor cross I built my bike to go faster than I could handle, I may be getting ahead of myself again. I'll keep all of this good info but slow my roll a little. Thanks.

IDPA is a blast. The type of pistol and level of modifications determines which Division you would compete in and your relative skill level determines in which classification you would compete. Check out the IDPA website for complete rules.

I just installed the APEX FSS Trigger Kit (POLY) in my M&P 45. What a huge difference. Take-Up is way better, Nomore Gritty Trigger, Clean Break, Better Reset. Well worth the $130.00
