A few years back I bought a refinished Model 36. It has a 6 digit ser# of 3688##

Any idea what year this was manufactured?

Thanks ahead of time.

Early 1965, maybe March/April. Stocks should be numbered inside right one, but stocks & thumbpiece look correct. Attsa nice un! ;)

I hate like heck to pull the panels off to check. knowutimean?

It won't hurt a thing if done correctly. Back the stock screw out until the head is above the stock flip the screwdriver around and tap the screw head with the end of the screwdriver handle. This will get the opposite stock to start to come off you should then be able to work this stock off; Then you can simply push the opposite stock off from the inside. Don't try and pry them off.

With that latch and those stocks, are you sure there isn't a J at the beginning of the serial number?

I had to go back and look. Under much better light there is a extremely Faint J at the beginning of the Ser#

The gun was refinished by S&W after it was purchased. It was rebuffed and it seems the J was buffed thin as shown in the pic.

Most likely a late 1975 to early '76 shipped gun. Enjoy!

Yep! Features shown in the pic militated against the other estimates that were supplied. A CS from the first half of the '60s would have had diamond stocks and a flat latch. I suspected this was a J prefix gun. :D
