Any Love for Ruger Single Actions?

I'd rather hear 4 clicks.:D

Yep, me too, and as a result I traded off my very lovely 1961 four digit 44 Flattop for a 45 Colt/45 ACP Colt New Frontier. The Flattop was gorgeous, more accurate than any other revolver I owned, and easy to fire full house loads.....

so what did I do, I traded for that Pony with a couple of hundred thrown in for boot,,,, stooped! Stooped! Stooped!

There are a lot of strong feelings in the "New Model v. Old Model" debate. Myself, I like them both.

So we should look at a couple of facts:

Is the New Model any less accurate than the old? Hardly. Is the New Model weaker than the old? Absolutely not.

Granted, these issues won't make a New Model more attractive in the eyes of a true purist.

But there's still one thing that still hasn't been mentioned, so I'll be the first to make this statement, and it is an indisputable fact:

Whether you like them or not, or are just plain indifferent, the Ruger New Model is an honest-to-goodness SIX shooter!

Love no but like yes. Had a single-six years ago but traded it off for a Ruger 22/45 and some cash. Still have a SBH with 10.5" bull barrel. It shoots well but I hate the dragoon style trigger guard. The flat part at the rear keeps hitting my middle finger in recoil. It's also started backing out the cylinder pin after a few rounds and tying up the cylinder. Not sure what's causing that? I'd hate send it back to Ruger if it's a simple fix.

That being said I've had a hankering for a Blackhawk convertible, 45/45ACP with 4 5/8" barrel for a few years. Just like the way they look with that barrel length. Not a fan of the 45 Colt but I am with regards to 45 ACP. Wonder if 45 Super would work in one?

the best handgun group I ever fired at 100yds was with a 45ACP/45 Colt Blackhawk with a 7.5 inch barrel, iron sights, 4 in a group I could cover with my hand, the other two a little farther out, called flyers... and I love the 4 5/8"s inch guns, they do just "look right"....

Love this 44. Shown here with 340gr Buffalo Bore loads. The gun can handle it better than my hand. Fortunately it usually only takes one shot to do the job.

Yep, that thang will eat you alive, I bought a new 5 1/2 Stainless Super Blackhawk,,, with 44 Mags, that was the most miserable handgun I have ever fired, and the damn thing wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn??? My shooting partner loved Rugers, and loved firing double taps with his 44 Mag, he's a big man, but he agreed with me????

the nicest 44 Mag I ever fired with heavy 44 Mag reloads was a 1961 flat top 44.. recessed cylinders, it was a gorgeous, sweet little ole thang, traded for a Colt New Frontier with 45 Colt/45 ACP cylinder,,, that things gone too, it shot well enough, but it wasn't half as slik as that pretty little Ruger!

Just picked up a New Model Vaquero in .357 Mag. First larger Ruger single action I've owned in years. Got it primarily because my 15 year old son is into cowboy stuff and we can go shooting together. It can and will do double duty as a home defense gun. Not that I am ever likely to need it in my small town. But you never know. I am working on trying to find a decent K frame revolver for that purpose as well. But, I really love the Ruger single action!

Ruger Bearcat

Thank you for this picture, brings back
memories of what looks like the same
Model of Bearcat I use to have.

Bought mine at Sodak Bait in Aberdeen
South Dakota, maybe about '78 or '79.
Had the Box and paperwork just like yours.

Some how I ended up with a Bearcat holster
too, it was traded off. Never used it.

Years later I unfortunately traded it off
for a brand new S&W Model 29 44 Mag
6-1/2" blued full under lug.

Thank you.

My little bitty Ruger single action. The only non S&W I own.

I wanted a full-size gun to shoot .32 S&W Long wadcutters in, and this Lipsey's Ruger Single-Seven Bisley .327 Federal Magnum model (what a mouthful) fills the bill so well I bought an El Paso Saddlery holster for it. I like that the charge holes index with the "click", and the man-sized grip frame. When I first ordered it, I wished it had a 6.5" barrel instead of a 5.5", but after getting it, I have zero complaints.

THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL REVOLVER AND HOLSTER COMBO, B B.....

I AM ALSO ENAMORED OF LIPSEY'S 3 3/4" SINGLE SEVEN, WITH BIRDSHEAD GRIPS ........

I want to play too.

Recently picked this up. Never been fired outside the factory, high polish stainless large frame Vaquero Bisley. Came with box & paperwork in 44 Mag. Shipped in October 1999.

I used to shoot a lot of .44 Mag (factory and handloads) in a 7.5” SBH but sold it off after I stopped shooting the heavy Magnums. I do like .38/.357 and .44 Spl Blackhawks and have a particular fondness for LW Tri-color Single-Sixes.

Any Love for Ruger Single Actions?

Gee, that's a tough question.

Let's see. Quality manufacture. Great product history. Strength. Dependability. Accuracy. Nostalgic appeal. Easily customized and/or modified. Affordability. Probably the best modern field revolver made that'll fit into most shooters' budget.

What's not to love?

Here are a couple of mine. To view the photos larger, just click on them.

I have a few, plus a couple of DA Ruger revolvers. I also have a 6" Bearcat on order, and a couple of other SAs that are in another drawer.

Calibers include .22LR, .22WMR, .32 H&R, .327 Magnum, .357 Magnum, .357 Maximum, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .45 Colt, .45 ACP, and .500 Linebaugh. The .22WMR and .45 ACP are via interchangeable cylinders.

Sir, beautiful collection, and I love the storage rack. I need one of these for my safes! Where can I get one (or two)!?!?

When I was a teenager back in 60s I had every Ruger made. I
shot my first K22 and started trading off the Rugers on S&Ws.
The only ones I have left is couple Single-6s and SBH. I quit the
Rugers altogether when the New Model came out.

Like many of us I’ve gone through several gun collecting phases and thoroughly enjoyed the journey. One early phase included a focus on both High Standard and Rugers . . . both high quality and affordable at the time.

The High Standards have all been passed on to other caretakers but four of the Rugers remain . . . a 1955 Single Six with flat loading gate; a 1959 Bearcat; a 1968 Super Single Six with extra .22 Magnum cylinder; and a 1971 Blackhawk 45 Colt with extra 45 ACP cylinder.
