I'm in the market for an M&P 9mm and was wondering if anyone has any insight on whether S&W will be putting out any rebates aside from the current one for service men and women. I noticed that their current program runs through the end of 2011. Is it a safe bet that they probably won't run any new rebate programs until this one expires or have they had two simultaneous rebates in the past?

They could do two at the same time, since the one in play now is not applicable to everyone. But there another thread in this section suggesting there is a shortage of M&Ps, which if true would make it unlikely they would want to lure in customers to buy unavailable pistols. You would think.

They also dropped the price recently instead of another mag/ money rebate. I would be surprized if they offer some other incentive with the demand so high.

If you want the M&P buy it they are hard to come by in most gun shops.

I've read that M&P's are getting hard to find on the shelves of LGS because S&W is dedicating much of it's production to filling LE department orders. The shortage has been confirmed here. Just a guess but I'm betting that you will see no rebates while demand outpaces inventory. Just Say'n.
If you want to save $, hunt up a nice used one that may already have extra mags and /or apex sear. All three of my M&P's were bought slightly used at good savings and I have NO complaints.

Out of stock

S&W told me the other day on the phone they are currently on back order for the 9mm M&P and production could be out as much as another month (mid-late August). Might want to look for a good used 9.

I hope they don't come out with a rebate. I missed out when I bought my first S&W semi. I didn't know that S&W offered rebates until I had already bought the gun & then I find out that 1 month after I purchased mine a rebate program started. 2 mags or a $50 check. :( I didn't do my homework & paid the price literally.

I just bought a M&P 40 Pro last month, so I guess it's about time to read that a rebate is starting. I have also heard that M&P's are hard to come by for the same reasons stated above...fulfilling government contracts. I would have a hard time believing that S&W would offer incentives to buy guns that weren't on the shelves & had a high demand vs. low supply. That doesn't make good business sense. So I don't see a rebate anytime soon. If you want an M&P and you see one in the store, you had better buy it!

Nozzelnut hit the nail on the head. S&W said this last Nov/Dec
when they made the announcement about the lowering of prices, (in lieu of rebates).
As to the shortages of various popular weapons, 'tis the summer season.
Generally, clearance time (read low inventory levels)for the "old" models. Wait til late Aug/Sept. for the hunting weapons to appear and other models such as M&Ps,Glocks and other handguns, etc....will follow.
Manufacturers don't make all models all the time. They do runs in cycles.

S&W M&P 9mm

Here in NJ the M&P 9mm are no where to be found. They are only available in the compact and the .40. I called just about every store in the state and I was told the production for the USA is on hold. Apparently they are filling up orders for China and Australia police. Now the good news ( for me at least), I had one gun shop who knows all the secrets and he called a S&W warehouse in Kentucky. He got me one with no problem :D not only did I get it but I got a great deal on it too. $550 out the door, brand new. That included tax, shipping and our stupid $20 background check. Now if only I can get my hands on a rebate. Right now there are only rebates if you were or are in the military. So bottom line is rebate or not, if you can find one buy it on the spot, these 9's are the most wanted handgun at the moment.

budsgunshop.com has the 9mm for 479 shipping included, in stock now.
All you pay is ffl

I put the .40 on layaway, picking it up next week.

Haven't seen a supply shortage there

*swyped from the evo so excuse any typos*

I'm really fortunate. I just orderedone from Buds LE store. I'm also a disabled vet so I qualified for the rebate. With the LE discount it comes to $349 shipped for a 9C with 3 mags!

My lucky day.

I think I got the timing down right for once.
No rebate on the horizon, $483 OTD which included Kommiefornia tax and $25 DROS fees and just before the supplies dried up. Even if the rebates started tomorrow, I'd still be happy I got my M&P 40 last month because I've been able to punch about 700 holes in paper with it since then and do a lot of reloading :).

I ended up getting the M&P 9c a couple of weekends ago for just over $500. Cheapest price I could find within a 2 hour drive. Yay for sky high Michigan firearm prices.

Picked up my M&P 9 today. Order took about 3 weeks. Test fired 7-13-11 so they must be geared up. Small local dealer, ordered 4 total, mine and 3 extras, came in yesterday. When I left the store today with mine, he had one left!

Just a quick note in case you missed it. S&W if offering a $50 rebate for new M&P Rifles, M&P Pistols, and Revolvers purchased from 1 April thru 31 Dec 2011. Some exclusions. Offer open to all Active duty, retired, reservists, disabled vets. More info on their web page:

Nation's Finest - Smith & Wesson (Nation's Finest - Smith & Wesson)

If the link doesn't work google: S&W Nation's Finest

Just think what it would do to business if they said "all veterans" instead what they and everyone else does, alot of vets out there that served when called to duty and never get any recognition for it. Sorry its a pet peave of mine.
