Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone heard of S&W developing a replacment or making a improvements on the M&P shield or developing a 9mm sub compact that is bodyguard sized?
I love both my Shield 9 & .40. and they became my EDC's. I would love to see a .380 version of the shield & maybe perhaps a M&P bodyguard in 9mm...

I would think the shield is pretty much the smallest 9 they will make. I think a 10mm m&p would be pretty cool. Maybe a 45 shield if they can do it.

Maybe something a little larger then the Shield like this. Don

M&P45 Shield makes the most sense, they are losing out big time against the XDS45/Glock36/Taurus PT145 market segment.

I'd like to see:

1. A single stack M&P in 9mm/.40 that is thin, has room on the grip for three fingers, and carries 8 rounds (10 with an extension). I'm anticipating a large-cap magazine ban... if you-know-who wins the election.

2. A steel framed or even aluminum framed M&P9/.40 -- everything else as on the plastic version, just made of metal. Would be a bit heavy, but would have minimal recoil and feel great in the hand -- with current manufacturing techniques, shouldn't be that expensive, either.

well as long as we're making wishes, I would totally buy a Shield 45

I would also like to see a swat-style m&p-themed 1911 maybe using the lightweight scandium frame that S&W already makes, but with the melonite coating and M&P styling treatment on the slide.

S&W M&P Skynet Special should be out in a few years.

Assuming the Phased Plasma job will take a bit more R&D, I'm getting into the line for a 45 Shield. True single stack, maybe 6 rounds to keep the width under 1" would be my preference.

I'm not much for rails on 1911s but mafbloggerdanny's mock-up looks kind of interesting to me.

Hmmm. Maybe it just looks better in my eyes because the fish scales serrations are not in the front slide serrations. They look fine on an M&P but not on the 1911, and I usually don't mind front serrations on a 1911.
And yes. Now that I think about it. I should try a railed gun now, favor external extractors, like Melonite, and get treated well by S&W. So yeah, I'll take one if it fits a standard rail holster. Don't need plastic or Scandium.

Personally what I'd like to see is S&W coming out with a 9mm version of the Bodyguard. I'm more than half tempted to trade in my BG380 for a Kimber solo carry or Kahr pm9

Go with the Kahr PM9, that's what I carry in the winter. The Solo is infamous for reliability problems and doesn't do the Kimber name any justice.

The future of handguns is for them to have a modular trigger pack like the Sig P320. That is where S&W should be concentrating their R&D dollars to keep the M&P pistols state of the art.

M&P 357Sig CORE with optional APEX trigger, red dot optic.

The Shield is a nice gun, but still bigger then it needs to be for a 9MM. The ruger LC9-s and the Glock 43 are smaller.

A slightly scaled up bodyguard in 9MM would be fabulous
