Any other CPL holders in MI try to buy a gun lately?

Was at my LGS on Friday to transfer an M41 bought here on the forum. Even tho I have a CPL I was told that since March ALL gun purchases must go through the NICS background check. Apparently the Feds aren't fully happy with how the state has handled the process of gun sales (LGS's opinion). To make matters worse, my request was put on "delayed" status so I still don't have the gun. Their experience is that "many" of their customers with CPLs have been delayed also. Beyond ticked off.

Any others have insight on this?

Here in NY we just have to get a NICS check and pay your tax of course

CLP= concealed Pistol License.I Michigan when you have a CLP you need an NICS check You just fill out the local paperwork. In Michigan when to apply for a CPL you have to under go a full back ground check.

From what I understand the Feds found out that the state Police allowed more than a few people to get approved for a CPL that for one reason or another should not have gotten them. So the Feds no longer trust the Michigan system.

Here in NY we have a concel carry permit you need to have to buy and carry handgun
Any long gun you just need a driver's license or state id and Nics check to buy one
So sorry for all the hassle

In Washington State, a CPL just bypasses the 10 day wait on a pistol. Still do a NICS check for all purchases, including a bare receiver. And a 10 day waiting period on an "assault rifle, which is any removeable magazine autoloading rifle. So yes, a Ruger 10/22 is an "Assault Rifle" according to WA State law. But a Ruger Charger, or AR Pistol is just fine. No waiting with a CPL. Just the NICS.

According to this article part of the problem is that Michigan was issuing CPL to those who are habitual Marijuana users in addition others who were disqualified.

Thanks for the replies, helping to connect the dots. I don't mind waiting 10-20 minutes but now I'm having to wait a week to get back in to pick it up (have to schedule an appt). Pissed.
