Been looking around on this site for any impressions on the R8. Seems to be mostly positive. Thought I'd put the question out here on the forum. I don't have one, yet...

Thanks in advance.

I don't have the R8 but I can say my 327 TRR8 is the most accurate center fire revolver I have ever shot. My favorite range gun.

They're fun.
I had a thread,"R8 gains weight" where I put a vortex red dot on mine and went to sight it in at the range with magnums and short Colts. Still one of the most fun times I can recollect.

Unfortunately I don't own a RB yet. Never thought I'd EVER like a SB, and ironically all 3 of my first Smiths are SB. I have held RB guns that I liked. I don't care much for RB J frames, but K frames or bigger I love. I desperately want a RB, blued Model 10 snub with pinned barrel so bad, just can't afford it right now. I can't wait until the day comes though. It will be a very happy day I'm certain of that.

He was referring to the N-frame 327 variant called the R8. Not an abbreviation of RoundButt.

I've drooled over the TRR8s for a few years now, specifically that one over the R8 because both rails are removable. Just can't make myself break out the debit card. Guess I'm too cheap.

While I went with a 325 TR (45 ACP version of the R8), it is basically the same gun. I gave serious consideration to the R8.

I put a red dot on mine. Great gun.

I like the 327 5" to the point I had bought one, but returned it due to three casings framed in the cylinder preventing its use, as elsewhere reported in the forum.
I never had afterwards news about how this happened and escaped controls.
Neither had I the opportunity to stumble across a second item of the same gun.
Whatever, I 've been advised against it a as a range revolver, both by several dealers and many experts, due to excessive recoil and a structure overall unfit for heavy use.
Even in this forum there are posts supporting such an approach.
So questions to you all 327 owners, and namely Dave - if you don't mind - since you show the steel variant as well, are:
1) how many rounds do you fire in it on a monthly basis?
2) what kind of loads do you fire?
3) did you experience any maintenance/care issue different from usual ones?
4) how differently would you describe the N-frame scandium version vs. the steel one, especially in terms of recoil (bite and second shot) ?
Thanks, all the best

Well, since mine is my bedside pistol, yeah, I think it's safe to say I'm a fan.

Pictured with my TRR6...

Looked everywhere for one of these,, noone had em, noone could order,,, yadda yadda, ended up finding a deal on a 7 shot 5" L frame pro series,,, of and of course right after that started running into the 327's....
Now trying hard to justify the money.. Both guns about same size and weight other than the one round... Although,,,,Just other things on the radar right now, still need a second mounted shooting gun
