I am without a j frame for a couple years now. I sold a 642 with a lock intending to replace it with a no lock reintroduction but got a kahr cw9 instead.... I traded a friend a smith 640 for a marlin 1894c last fall.

I like the pocket carry just carry the shrouded airweight. They have thier place for sure. I shoot them well. I was at my enablers place yesterday ordering a CZ 452 american 16 inch and saw the S&W 442 pro in the case and have been smitten. The moon clips are interesting and I love my 625

That's pretty much all that stops me... ;)

I like the regular 442 more over the Pro offering. I just don't feel like the moonclips hold the cartridges tight enough to really make speed loading them that fast. I could be wrong, I just really like my HKS speedloaders for long revolver brass and moonclips for short brass like .45 ACP for the 625.

The only differences are the no lock, front XS sight, and cut for moon clips, right?

That being the case I don't think it's worth the upcharge.

It's marked 399@ my local dealer. Buds is 360 ish for a plain plus the ffl fee... A cheap ffl even at 30.00 only puts it a few bucks more. The full moon conversion is over 100.. With shipping etc so it's not a bad gig on price. And that is the street price I am friends with the owner and work for them so it's not a money thing. I do miss my 642 the I carried often but just began to hate the lock it had so I sent it down the road.

I could live without another j frame I guess but the gun and even the moon clip is something I had wanted to try or have again. The worst I have sad are some issues with some clips but the gun functions fine without them so it's not a bad thing.

While I have many high cap real guns the little ones are easier for around the house etc. Then again this is not a "need thing"....

I just wanted to make sure barrels aren't falling off, barrels out of regulation of sights etc on a consistent basis...

Moon clips are a convenient way to carry spare rounds if the ammo/clip is cased. Uncased you soon end up with a bent clip that may not allow the cylinder to close. I sold my Pro after this happened to me. Standard NL 442 for me now.

I've been carrying a "regular" 442 for a couple of months now, IWB (not pocket.) I chose it over a 642 because of the black sights and what I thought would be a slightly less visible/obvious gun.

Yesterday I noticed a bit of rust on the top of the crane/bottom of the crane cutout in the frame. Just a bit, most of it came off with CLP. But I think I'll be looking for a 642 before long. And will figure out some way to make the sights black so I can see 'em.

Body sweat is the arch nemesis of the 442 especially if worn IWB. Just have to make sure you wipe it down regularly with a lightly oiled patch or silicone cloth.

I'm sure that's the problem. After carrying a Glock for years (sorry) I just don't think about that kind of regular maintenance. I can certainly give more attention to the 442, but I'm concerned about what may be going on inside, where I won't be giving much attention.

The regular no-lock model 150544 is cheaper, has the standard cylinder, and is also available at Buds, and most dealers
