I just bought a NIB 642 Pro at a really good price (under $500.00) because it was at a decent price and I have located a 442 Pro and was wondering if the expense of the J frame "Pro's" are really worth it in your opinions. The 442 Pro I am looking at is about 60 bucks more than I paid for the 642 Pro and all I am getting is moon clips and the cut out, nothing else. I can get a standard 442 for around 90 bucks cheaper than the 442 Pro model. Decisions, decisions..

I have a 642 Pro just because I got it at a good price, but for my needs the differences really aren't worth the price difference.

The ability to use moon clips is worth the $60 difference.

You may not use them all the time but if you’re carrying for self defense and want more ammo than what’s in the gun, moon clips are the best option.

Folks make a mistake with moon clips: they often think they need to use them for each shot at the range. That makes using moon clips a real pain. No reason to be loading and unloading them for simple range use.

The big advantage of moon clips is when you have one in the cylinder, extraction is more certain, and allows a better reload

thanks guy's, will also look at the 642PC gun, the one with the IL and red altamont wood grips is local and the trigger was very nice too. It is eating at me while I type this. I really like these smoothed out from the factory PC guns when you compare them side by side to a standard J frame..

I picked up a 640 pro. It's rated for .357, and at 24oz it's got the weight for the .357 rounds. But since it's got such a short barrel, I'll likely only shoot .38 in it. But all the features and the lack of the IL is what sold me. It has everything you want already included. The sweet DAO is easily staged at the 2nd click too. They're a bit pricey, but if you were thinking of having a j-frame tuned up for carry, complete with moon clips, and an action job, and dovetailed front rear sight. Then it's a bargain. It's also easy to fire accurately because it's so smooth, unlike lots of j-frames. I highly recommend it.

Had a 442 Pro a while ago and while I did like it there’s little difference between it and my old Model 60.
